HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Reno County Chamber of Commerce is continuing to host a hiring event through March 31.
Chamber CEO Debra Teufel said this is due to requests from members who are interested in reaching out to the recently laid off workers in the community. Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and Sonoco Hutchinson Paper Mill both had recent and major layoffs that have included dozens of community members.
"We thought, what could we do to be a direct conduit for our businesses to reach out to those folks?" Teufel said. "We have space in the Chamber. We have a couple different board meeting spaces that we can break up in different ways. A couple of our members had asked if they could use our spaces, especially if they are, you know, out in Haven, or out in one of the outlying communities, they wanted to be able to, you know, have a place right here in Hutchinson that they could do interviews. Based on that request, we said, why don't we open this up to all of our members?
If a company is interested in holding on-site interviews at the Chamber or the adjacent Boys & Girls Club conference room, they may sign up by contacting the Chamber at (620) 662-3391. Additionally, people can sign up by going to the hutchchamber.com home page and following the link to the sign-up form.
Businesses are encouraged to invite applicants to the event during their scheduled slot to be interviewed.
The Chamber will maintain an updated listing of scheduled interview opportunities. Anyone wishing to interview with a company on the schedule is encouraged to visit the Chamber office located at 117 N. Walnut St. during the specified time for that company.
"You can just walk right in," Teufel said. "You may bring your resume. If you don't have a resume that's okay. They'll take all of the interviews right there on site. Another service I want to make sure people know about is, we have a Kansas Workforce Center right here in Hutchinson on the Hutch Community College campus. They provide a lot of services to job seekers to help them prepare for interviews."
