MANHATTAN – All-American Blake Saffell carded a season-best 68 on Tuesday to earn a five-stroke victory in Jayhawk No. 1, the KJCCC's first of three league-designated tournaments.

Saffell's individual victory paced the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team to a tie with No. 5 Dodge City for the team championship on Tuesday at Colbert Hills Country Club.

The Blue Dragons had a slim two-stroke lead over Dodge City after 36 holes. The Conquistadors shot 290 on Tuesday to the Blue Dragons' 292. The teams tied for the tournament title with 54-hole totals of one-over par 865.

Each team receives 9.5 points in the season team standings. Garden City was third at 921. Barton and Kansas City was tied for fourth at 936.

In addition to Saffell's 68 in the final round, the Blue Dragons counted scores of 73 by Marco Anderson, 75 by Louis Galvin and 76 by Alex Lindstrom.

Saffell entered the final round tied for second just one stroke out of the lead. With five birdies and just one bogey, Saffell tied for the low round of the tournament with a 4-under-par round of 68

Saffell won his first collegiate tournament and posted his ninth Top 10 career finish at 6-under-par 210. He also takes the Jayhawk Conference individual lead with 10 points.

Two other Blue Dragons finished in the Top 10 on Tuesday as Lindstrom and Galvin tied for sixth at 2-over 218. Dominic Clemons tied for 11th after a final-round 77 to close at 223. Anderson tied for 14th at 226.

Individual Blue Dragon player Kalle Svederman tied for 12th at 224 after posting a 77. Brooks Sauder had a 75 on Tuesday to finish tied for 24th at 234.

Jayhawk No. 2 is in two weeks at Crestview Country Club South in Wichita.
