Gayla R. Golden, went to be with her Lord &amp; Savior on May 24, 2024. She passed peacefully at her home in Cunningham, KS at the age of 61.

Gayla battled colon cancer for 4 ½ years.

She was born April 25, 1963 in Parsons, KS to Ned R. and Norma Jean Golden. In 1981, she graduated from Cunningham High School, then went on to get a Fashion Merchandising degree from Brown Mackie College in Salina, KS.

She moved home after College and lived on the farm, working at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham for 39 years in the laundry and dietary departments. When not working at Hilltop, she was busy working and taking care of horses and spending time with her dogs and farm animals. She was always happiest to be at the farm.

Gayla loved the Lord, her animals and her family was her pride and joy. She loved cheerleading during her school years. She was a member of Cunningham Christian Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

Gayla will always be remembered by her positive attitude, encouragement for others and many stories that she loved to tell and how her eyes would “sparkle” when talking about her family. She had set a goal to attend both her nieces weddings and was able to achieve that goal.

She is survived by her mother, Norma Jean; brother, Randy (Carolyn) of Pratt; nieces, Destiny (Dusty) Schartz of Hutchinson, Madison (Kasey) Gilpin of Wichita and great nephew, Hudson Leigh Schartz of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her father, Ned R. Golden.

Friends may sign the register book on Monday, May 27, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, KS 67124. Melva Colleen Stockstill, 94, died May 20, 2024, at Legend of Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;She was born October 8, 1929, in Nickerson, KS, to Melvin Erdman Thompson and Leona Mae (Bennett) Thompson.

Colleen was a graduate of Raymond High School, Raymond, KS, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, and Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;She was member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. &nbsp;Colleen attended Baptist churches in Raymond, KS, and Hutchinson, KS.

She was a homemaker. &nbsp;Colleen and her husband reigned as the king and queen of the New Orleans, LA, Mardi Gras in 1973. &nbsp;She served as the president of the Newcomers Club of New Orleans.

On July 26, 1952, Colleen married Fred Dean Stockstill at the First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 68 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 3, 2020.

Colleen is survived by: &nbsp;her niece, Kathleen ‘Kathy’ (Duane) Carey of Hutchinson, KS; nephews, Mark (Beth) McKibben of Hutchinson, KS, and Steven (Kim) McKibben of Wichita, KS; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; husband; infant sister, Doris Thompson; and sister, Alberta ‘Bobbie’ McKibben.

Graveside service for Colleen and Fred will be held at a later date. &nbsp;Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Open Door Health Services, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

The project will be completed by ATG Sports Industries for $386,000.00. The work on the resurfacing is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 28.

ATG Sports Industries was founded in Festus, Missouri, but has a location in Andover.

🏈👟 Gowans Stadium track to be resurfaced

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kyle Fisher was introduced as the 16th head men's basketball coach in Hutchinson Community College history on Wednesday afternoon at a news conference at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

"It's incredible to be named the next men's basketball coach at Hutchinson," Fisher said. "When I walk into this place, I'm in awe, so now when I walk in here and have an office in here, pinch me, because it's so special. I take a lot of pride in the seat I get to sit in and I will work as hard as I can to maintain the proud tradition of this program."

HutchCC athletic director Josh Gooch formally introduced Fisher to the Blue Dragon fans and media seated on Sam Butterfield Court.

"The next men's basketball coach at Hutch needed to be someone that could lead," Gooch said. "Someone that could lead the program in all aspects, someone that could respect the past accomplishments of Blue Dragon basketball, while having a vision of what it needed to be moving forward. The goal will always be to hang banners, and a national championship banner at that."

Fisher said the past couple of weeks have been pretty intense.

"It's been an emotional whirlwind," Fisher said. "I knew how special Hutchinson was, but I knew what we had built and I take pride in what we had built. The opportunity to be the head coach at Hutch was tremendous, so it's been going real fast, but we take a lot of pride in the way we do things and the people we want to surround ourselves with, so it's been a lot of fun."

Fisher comes to Hutchinson after five successful seasons as the head coach at Butler Community College in El Dorado, where he led the Grizzlies to a 113-42 record, including 78-34 in the Jayhawk Conference. Fisher led the Grizzlies to 20-plus wins four times in his five-year tenure.

Although it has been a whirlwind, Fisher was thrilled when he received the call from Gooch telling him it was his gig.

"Coach Gooch and I spent two days together where it seemed like we talked all day," Fisher said. "I was in Florida on family vacation when I officially accepted the job, so we started making arrangements to come back early and get to work. It was clear to me that this opportunity was too good to pass up, and I truly think we can do some great things with this program moving forward."

The Hutchinson Sports Arena is known to many as the mecca of junior college hoops, and Fisher is excited to call it home.

"I've got a lot of great memories in here on different sidelines in this conference," Fisher said. "It certainly is a big responsibility, you know a lot of people talk about rivalries and Hutch, but the reality of it is when you're at Hutch, everyone is your rival."

Although Fisher is now officially the head coach, he knows there is still a lot of work to get done and it starts with getting his staff complete.

"The roster will take care of itself, but I want to make sure I have the right people around me," Fisher said. "If I have the right people in the room then we will be able to go find the right players that will fit our style and the way we want to play, and be able to meet our expectations as a staff and as a program."

Fisher hopes to have his coaching staff complete by later this week.

"I do see some clarity in a staff and being able to finalize that unofficially by the end of the weekend," Fisher said. "We'll be recruiting all the way through August. The good thing is there are still a lot of really good players available, and a lot of guys that will want to come play at a place like Hutch, so we'll get all of the right pieces in place."

While off the court, Fisher enjoys spending time with his wife, Kathryn, and daughters, Grace and Rose.

"They're everything to me," Fisher said. "The first thing I tell recruits when I meet them or they're on a visit is I'm about family and I'm about winning. The program and the players and their families are an extension of my family. We'll look out after them as if they're my own."

As a player, Fisher was a four-year member of Washburn's basketball team where he played for Hall of Fame coach Bob Chipman.

A native of Liberty, Missouri, Fisher graduated from Liberty High in 2003. Fisher holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Washburn University and an M.S. in Sports Administration from the University of Central Missouri.

Doctor Gregory Dean Postier D.C., 38, of Manhattan, Kansas passed away on May 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and passion for life and health.&nbsp;

Greg was born on October 8, 1985, in Hutchinson, Kansas and raised in Inman, where he graduated from Inman High School before pursuing higher education, first at Hutchinson Community College and then at Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. His journey in healthcare continued at Palmer College of Chiropractic, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2012. Greg began his profession at Goble-Heal Chiropractic clinics in Indiana, and in the fall of 2015, he fulfilled his dream of opening his own practice, Postier Chiropractic.&nbsp;

Greg was passionate about helping others reach their best physical lives as a Chiropractor who specialized in the Gonstead method. He was intentional when he sat with his patients and helped them dream of what life could be like if they didn’t carry the weight of physical injury or pain. He loved being able to educate people on the importance of the nervous system in every other part of their body’s functioning. &nbsp;He loved reading testimonials about how his work was able to change his patient’s lives in such tangible ways.

On a more personal note, to know him was to love him.

To love him was to know that one of the most epic qualities about Greg was his ability to embody numerous sides of himself all at once. He could go from being ornery and pranking to being compassionate in an instant and laser focused on fixing any of your problems that he was able to. This was a quality he even claimed was a critical piece of his “provider theory” that he took pride in developing and detailing over the course of his life.&nbsp; In fact, this would have been a topic for chapter 3 of his future book on the subject.

He wore many hats over the years and was involved in a wide variety of hobbies and causes to include: being a hardworking farm kid, an avid outdoorsman, an adept “provider”, a catfishing champion, a bird hunter, an intense fisherman, an amateur model (even if his role was “coach/dad” and not an “athlete”), a skilled handyman, a junior college mascot, a playful prankster, a fierce advocate for the underdogs (especially the teens he supported as a volunteer with the Flint Hills Foster Teen Camps for the last 7 years), a devoted friend, brother, son and nephew, and of course a very passionate and gifted doctor.

With his mind always active on improving and caring for people around him, he found peace in the quiet, focused moments of dialing in his kayak for the next adventure and he would spend countless hours fine tuning all his equipment. From the days he started fishing in the creek near his home, he started dreaming of owning a boat and spending as much time fishing as possible. Potentially the only thing he loved more than his time fishing was persistently thinking up witty banter that would “provide” laughter and smiles to those in earshot. This was a skill largely shaped by his childhood friendships that he remained fiercely loyal to throughout his life.

While his provider theory was often mentioned in jest, he also deeply personified the essence of being a generous giver. It meant something deeply for him to be able to

give anything, he could to those around him to help them survive and live more fully, be it through sustenance (in other words fish) or the deepest form of empathy that supported people on their terms. He gave so much more in his short life to the world and people around him than most people are able to give over a century.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Carlene Postier, grandparents Lynn and Lenore Postier and Quinton and Ella Juhnke, and&nbsp;<a>uncle</a>&nbsp;Dwayne Juhnke.&nbsp;

Greg is survived by his beloved cat Hobie, fiancée Amy Billinger, sister Lori (Matt) Elwonger, uncle Lowel (Jackie) Postier, aunt Norma Juhnke, and cousins Jesse Postier, Amanda Postier, Darin (Cassie) Juhnke, and Colette (Travis) Terrel.

Greg's passing has left a profound emptiness in the hearts of his many friends, who remember his warmth, kindness, helpfulness, humor, and unwavering friendship. His adventurous spirit, dedication to his profession, and love for family and friends will live on in the stories and memories shared by all who had the privilege of knowing him.&nbsp;May the heart-warming and amusing stories he “provided” us all continue to bring laughter and comfort to all those who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM Rock Hills Church, Manhattan, KS with visitation to follow the service.&nbsp;Formal Attire not required (he would hate that unless that’s how he saw you regularly). This was a quality he even claimed was a critical piece of his “provider theory” that he took pride in developing and detailing over the course of his life.&nbsp; In fact, this would have been a topic for chapter 3 of his future book on the subject.He wore many hats over the years and was involved in a wide variety of hobbies and causes to include: being a hardworking farm kid, an avid outdoorsman, an adept “provider”, a catfishing champion, a bird hunter, an intense fisherman, an amateur model (even if his role was “coach/dad” and not an “athlete”), a skilled handyman, a junior college mascot, a playful prankster, a fierce advocate for the underdogs (especially the teens he supported as a volunteer with the Flint Hills Foster Teen Camps for the last 7 years), a devoted friend, brother, son and nephew, and of course a very passionate and gifted doctor.With his mind always active on improving and caring for people around him, he found peace in the quiet, focused moments of dialing in his kayak for the next adventure and he would spend countless hours fine tuning all his equipment. From the days he started fishing in the creek near his home, he started dreaming of owning a boat and spending as much time fishing as possible. Potentially the only thing he loved more than his time fishing was persistently thinking up witty banter that would “provide” laughter and smiles to those in earshot. This was a skill largely shaped by his childhood friendships that he remained fiercely loyal to throughout his life.While his provider theory was often mentioned in jest, he also deeply personified the essence of being a generous giver. OXFORD, Alabama – The Hutchinson Community College softball team's best season in program history came to an end in its third game of the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series at Choccolocco Park.

Just a couple of hours after No. 2 Indian River State dropped No. 15-seed Hutchinson into the losers' bracket of the 20-team double-elimination field on Tuesday, the Blue Dragons fell to another Florida team, No. 16 Lake Land College, 5-2, in an elimination game.

Making their first every appearance in the NJCAA World Series after winning the program's first regional championship since 1987, the Blue Dragon close their historic season with a 47-12 record, the most wins in program history.

The 2024 Blue Dragon sophomores won 92 games, the 2023 Jayhawk Conference championship – the program's first in 32 years – at the 2024 Region 6 championship. Head Coach Jaime Rose completes her 20th season with the Blue Dragons with 618 wins.

Falling quickly behind 2-0, the Blue Dragons immediately responded in the bottom of the first. Lake Land took a 3-2 lead in the fourth with a Karah Moore RBI single. The Lakers scored two unearned runs as insurance in the top of the seventh to build three-run lead.

🥎 Blue Dragons' historic season comes to an end

OXFORD, Alabama – Two of the top pitchers in the nation locked up in an old-fashioned pitcher's duel Tuesday in the second round of the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series.

Hutchinson Community College pitcher of the year&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lake_dakota_j57w">Dakota Lake</a>, the Jayhawk Conference Pitcher of the Year, went toe-to-toe with No. 2 Indian River State's J'daj Girigorie at Choccolocco Park and pitched one of her best games of the season.

Indian River State scratched out two runs in the first inning and the Pioneers made it stand up as the No. 15-seeded Blue Dragons fell to the losers' bracket after a 2-0 loss.

The Dragons (47-11) played Lake Land College later Tuesday in an elimination game.

Lake (12-4) struck out nine and gave up only four hits to the Pioneers (52-9), just two from the third inning on.

Indian River State took advantage of two first-inning walks, though, getting a two-out, two-run double from Maddox Thomas to take a 2-0 lead over the Blue Dragons.

Lake then raised her level and kept the Pioneers' potent offense in check.

After a leadoff IRSC single and sacrifice bunt in the second, Lake ended the inning with a pair of strikeouts. After a 1-2-3 third, Lake allowed a leadoff double in the fourth, but two strikeouts and a groundout to second baseman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lozoya_tamara_njkf">Tamara Lozoya</a>&nbsp;ended that threat. Then in the sixth, Lake struck out the first two batters she faced and allowed a two-out single. The inning quickly ended when catcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/divis_madi_gofs">Madi Divis</a>&nbsp;threw out Ciara Gendron trying to steal second base to end the inning.

Girigorie simply didn't let the Blue Dragons offense get rolling. The Dragons struck out a season-high 15 times against Girigorie (33-6). She didn't walk a batter.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_brooke_06ze">Brooke Backhaus</a>' single to center to lead off the third inning was the Dragons' first hit of the game. Divis and Lozoya had the other Dragons hits.

Hutchinson mounted a threat in the seventh as both Divis and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lies_korri_k1mj">Korri Lies</a>&nbsp;reached base on a pair of Pioneer errors. Pinch runner&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/dice_emily_aof6">Emily Dice</a>&nbsp;and Lies made it even more interesting with a delayed double steak of second and third, but Girigorie's 15th strikeout of the game ended the threat.

OXFORD, Alabama – It took the Hutchinson Community College softball team 38 years to play in an NJCAA Softball World Series game.

It took only one game for the Blue Dragons to earn their first World Series victory.

Powered by freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lake_dakota_j57w">Dakota Lake</a>'s two-hit complete-game shutout, the 15th-seeded Blue Dragons rolled to a five-inning run-rule 8-0 victory over No. 19 Connors State in an opening-round game on Field 4 at Choccolocco Park.

The Blue Dragons (47-10) advance to play No. 2 Indian River State (51-9) at 1 p.m. Tuesday on Field 2 in a second-round winner's bracket game.&nbsp;

Lake was dominant and efficient in twirling her ninth complete game and third complete-game shutout this season. Lake allowed just four baserunners on two hits and two walks.

She gave up a two-out triple in the opening inning, only to get a strikeout to end that threat. She allowed a two-out walk in the second inning. Lake gave up a walk and a single in the top of the five. Her last pitch of the game was a nicely-turned 4-6-3 double play –&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lozoya_tamara_njkf">Tamara Lozoya</a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_bailey_6uk7">Bailey Backhaus</a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_brooke_06ze">Brooke Backhaus</a>&nbsp;– to end the inning.

Lake (12-3) needed only 66 pitches to navigate the Connors State lineup. She retired 10 of 11 Cowgirls from the first through the end of the fourth inning, including seven-straight batters. Lake had five strikeouts.

This was Lake's third start with a complete-game shutout of two hits or less.

Leading 7-0 after 4 1/2 innings, sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/sandoval_olivia_ydnf">Olivia Sandoval</a>&nbsp;capped a four-hit, three-RBI game with a walk-off single to left that scored Lozoya with the eighth run of the game.

The Blue Dragons out-hit Connors State 12-2, all 12 hits where singles.

Sandoval had her team-high seventh four-hit game of the season, going 4 for 4. She posted her eighth three RBI game of the season and tied Jessica Glenn (2009) for second in the Blue Dragon single-season hits list with 96.

Divis and Lies had-back-to-back RBIs singles in the first inning to give the Blue Dragons a 2-0 lead. The Nos. 5 and 6 hitters did the exact same thing in the second after Sandoval laced a two-run double to make it 6-0. The Dragons completed a five-run second inning when Brie Brawners's infield single to short score the fifth run of the inning for a 7-0 lead.

POSTGAME NOTES:+ To Blue Dragons extended their record for wins in a season to 47 games and have won four games in a row.

+ The 2024 Blue Dragons exacted some revenge for the 1987 team that won the Region VI Tournament, but failed to qualify for the World Series because the 1987 team lost to an Oklahoma team, NEO, in the district tournament. Connors State is the 2024 Region 2 (Oklahoma) champion.

Johnson became the third Blue Dragon pole vaulter in team history win an NJCAA national title on Friday, clearing a school-record 16 feet, 8 1/2 inches.

Johnson made his school-record height of 16-8 1/2 on his first attempt, but missed all three times with the bar at 17 feet.

Johnson is the first Blue Dragon individual outdoor national champion which Richard Newman won the high jump in 2019. He is the first pole vault national champion since 1986 when Randy Bryant won the championship. Johnson joins Bryant and Michael Patton (1976) as Blue Dragon pole vault national champions.

Johnson is the 53rd overall individual national champion in Blue Dragon men's track and field history.

Johnson's 10 points scored on Friday vaulted the Blue Dragons into 10th place after Day 2 with 14 points. Iowa Western leads the men's title chase with 52 points. Barton is right behind with 51 points.

 🥇Johnson Captures NJCAA Championship in vault

MONROE, Louisiana – Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mtrack/2023-24/bios/thid_david_jvzs">David Thid</a>&nbsp;became the second Hutchinson Community College athlete to win a national championship this weekend and the Blue Dragon men earned a Top 10 finish at the NJCAA Division I Track and Field championships for the first time in six years on Saturday at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Thid became the first Blue Dragon ever to win an individual national championship in the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday, doing so with a school-record time of 50.76 seconds.

The Blue Dragons scored 12 points on Saturday to secure a 10th-place team finish with 26 points. That's the most points scored since 2018. The last time the Dragons placed nationally in the Top 10 was a ninth-place performance in 2018.

Thid qualified for Saturday's finals with the third-best time in the preliminary round of 52.72 seconds. The Blue Dragon freshman saved his best for last, breaking his own school record with a national championship time of 50.76 seconds. His winning margin was by 0.85 seconds over Fort Scott's Chamar Smith.

Thid is the second Blue Dragon to win an event national title this season, joining&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mtrack/2023-24/bios/johnson_chris_pj8c">Chris Johnson</a>, who on the pole vault on Friday. That's the first time the Blue Dragons won two national event titles in the same season since 2011 when John Talbert won both the discus and hammer, doing so at Gowans Stadium.

Now the 54th overall event national champion in Blue Dragon men's track and field history, Thid is the first Blue Dragon to win any hurdle event national title since Duane Zerger in 1953. Zerger won the 220-yard low hurdles title.

🥇Blue Dragon Thid wins National Championship in 400-meter hurdles

&nbsp; MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;— Kansas State head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jerome-tang/2353">Jerome Tang</a>&nbsp;continued to solidify his front court for the 2024-25 season with the signing of All-Southern Conference selection&nbsp;Achor Achor(Melbourne, Australia/Greenforest McCalep Academy/Chipola College/Samford)&nbsp;to a Financial Aid Agreement on Monday (May 20).

A 6-foot-9, 227-pound wing, Achor arrives at K-State after spending the last 2 seasons (2022-24) at Samford in Birmingham, Ala., where he was apart of 50 wins, 2 regular-season Southern Conference championships (2023, 2024) and the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 24 seasons in 2023-24. He also played 2 seasons (2020-22) at NJCAA powerhouse Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., leading the Indians to 59 wins and back-to-back Final Four appearances (2021, 2022) at the NJCAA Division I Championship in Hutchinson, Kan.

Achor will have one season of eligibility remaining due to the NCAA granting student-athletes who played during the 2020-21 athletic season an extra season of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

&nbsp; "It's always a great day to be a Wildcat especially when you can welcome someone like Achor and his family to K-State," said head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jerome-tang/2353">Jerome Tang</a>. "I love his resiliency. He has overcome a lot personally as well as on the court. He has a terrific smile, and he raises the energy level in any room or gym he walks in. On top of that, he is a terrific basketball player, as his mobility and versatility make him a mismatch nightmare. He's been part of a winning culture at Samford, along with his NCAA Tournament experience, and will add great value to our locker room. I know our fans will enjoy getting to know him. The passion he plays with is infectious."

&nbsp; Achor has scored nearly 1,000 career points in 105 career games at Chipola College (2020-22) and Samford (2022-24) with 50 starts in his playing career, connecting on 56.9 percent (350-of-615) shooting from the field with 487 rebounds (4.6 rpg.), 103 blocks (1.0 bpg.), 78 assists (0.7 apg.) and 72 steals (0.7 spg.) in 1,589 minutes played (15.1 mpg.). He has totaled 14 20-point games and one 30-point game in his career, along with 5 double-doubles. He scored a career-high 35 points in Samford's 75-71 win at Western Carolina on Jan. 16, 2024, connecting on 12-of-22 field goal attempts, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range.

&nbsp; Achor has been part of high-level winning throughout his college career, as his teams have posted a cumulative 109-28 (.796) record, including 48-12 (.800) mark in conference play, with 5 conference championships (2 SoCon regular-season titles and 1 tournament title), 2 NJCAA Championship appearances, which included consecutive Final Four trips, 2 Florida State championships and one NCAA Tournament appearance.

Achor helped Samford to its best 2-year span (50-17) in school history, which included back-to-back Southern Conference regular-season titles (2023, 2024), the 2024 Southern Conference Tournament championship and the first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2000 under head coach&nbsp;Bucky McMillan. The 29 wins in 2023-24 were the most in school history and the second-most by a Division I school behind James Madison (32).

In his 2 seasons at Samford, Achor averaged 11.3 points on 58.4 percent (262-of-449) shooting, including 41.9 percent (31-of-74) from 3-point range, and 69.6 percent (158-of-227) from the free throw line to go with 4.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.3 blocks and 0.6 steals in 18.7 minutes per game. He played in 63 of a possible 67 games with 34 starts, while scoring in double figures 31 times.

&nbsp; Achor had his best season to date as a collegian in 2023-24, upping his scoring average by 10 points per game (6.1 to 16.1 ppg.) en route to leading the Bulldogs in 10 categories, including in both scoring and rebounding, and earning First Team All-Southern Conference honors. He had 12 games of 20 or more points, including a career-best 35 in the win at Western Carolina on Jan. 16. He also added 3 double-doubles, including a 28-point, 14-rebound effort in a semifinal win over Furman on March 10 at the Southern Conference Championship.

Achor was playing his best at the end of the season, posting 20 or more points in 4 of the last 5 games capped by his 23-point, 8-rebound performance in helping the 14-seed Bulldogs push 4-seed Kansas to the brink in a 93-89 loss in the NCAA Tournament First Round. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Southern Conference Championship after averaging 21.7 points on 65.3 percent (23-of-35) shooting with 9 rebounding in 3 tournament games. Following his double-double over Furman in the semifinals, he had a game-high 25 points in the 76-69 win over East Tennessee State in the championship game to go with a team-high 9 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals.

Robert Seward Rowan, 85, died May 18, 2024, at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. He was born August 7, 1938 in Chicago, IL.

Robert was a Korean War veteran. He received a Master of Philosophy from Beloit College, WI. Later on in life, he worked as a self- employed carpenter.

Robert was a musician and would play mostly every instrument he could, the banjo, was on of them. He also played the dulcimer with different dulcimer groups in Hutchinson.

On September 8, 1972, he married Barbara Ann Koester in Santa Rosa, CA. They shared 43 years of marriage, prior to her death on August 19, 2016.

Robert is survived by: children, Toni (Craig) Parrott of Hutchinson, Todd (Janet) Rowan of California, Nicole Dean of Oregon, Laurie (David) Hollis of Hutchinson; numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: stepchildren, Roger and Jill Tholen.

Cremation has taken place. &nbsp;No services are planned, Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main., Hutchinson, KS 67501.

WICHITA – After five consecutive elimination game victories over the last three days, the No. 10-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team was running on fumes Sunday at Eck Stadium.

The Jayhawk West champion, and No. 10 nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team fell to the Top-ranked Johnson County Cavaliers 14-6 at Eck Stadium in the second championship game of the Plains District (Region 6) tournament.

Bidding for its first regional championship since 2010 and trying to pull off a rare feat – win the double-elimination tournament after losing its first game – which has been done only once since the tournament went to this format in 2004, the Blue Dragons grabbed an early lead. They couldn't sustain the momentum though as Johnson County scored three runs in each of the first three innings and scored at least one run in its first seven at-bats of the game.

The 2024 Blue Dragons close out a record-setting season with a record of 51-13 for first-year head coach Brock Nehls. The 51 wins break the only season wins record of 47 since in 2002 and 2017. The 2024 Blue Dragons won the Jayhawk West for the first time since 2021 and for the 13th time in program history.

The Blue Dragons opened the 2024 district tournament with a 5-4 loss to Barton on Wednesday. Hutchinson then went on a tear through the elimination bracket defeating Dodge City on Thursday, walking off No. 15 Kansas City, 9-8 and ousting Cowley 8-6 on Friday. Then came Saturday with a pair of 10-inning victories – walking off Barton when&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/wesslund_cooper_2jkh">Cooper Wesslund</a>&nbsp;singled home&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/babin_kael_g1ow">Kael Babin</a>&nbsp;with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th for a 3-2 victory. ⚾ Blue Dragons fall to No. 1 Johnson County in decisive final

MONROE, Louisiana – Two more school record were broken and the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team had its best national championship finish since 2019 on Saturday at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/hawkins_brooke_1fkd">Brooke Hawkins</a>&nbsp;finished as national runner-up in the triple jump and freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/kuepker_jenna_arvk">Jenna Kuepker</a>&nbsp;broke her own school javelin record to lead the Blue Dragon women to a 13th-place team performance at the 2024 NJCAA Division I Track and Field Championships.

The Blue Dragons scored 19.33 points, scoring in five events. The Dragons' point total and team placing were the best since 2019 when Hutchinson finished 10th with 20 points.

Including the two school records broken on Saturday by Hawkins and Kuepker, the Blue Dragon women broke a total of four over the weekend.&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/larson_serenity_tezp">Serenity Larson</a>&nbsp;broke the 10,000-meter record and the Blue Dragon 4x800-meter relay –&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/van_zelfden_ellie_7nqg">Ellie Van Zelfden</a>, Larson,&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/grantham_abigail_cxzg">Abigail Grantham</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/hoskinson_taylor_qmkp">Taylor Hoskinson</a>&nbsp;– broke that record.

Hawkins took down record No. 3 in the women's triple jump and earned a national runner-up placing on Saturday.

The Blue Dragon freshman capped a tremendous season with a record-breaking jump of 40 feet, 3 1/4 inches. The national runner-up finish was the best event placing for a Blue Dragon since Morgan Ash was the national runner-up in the 2016 javelin.

The final record to fall came at the women's javelin by Kuepker. The Blue Dragon freshman unleashed a school-record throw of 158 feet, 1 inch, which broke her own record of 154-3 at the K.T. Woodman Classic in April.

Hurdler&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/james_kaylee_rvey">Kaylee James</a>&nbsp;earned third-team All-America honors with a sixth-place performance in the 100-meter hurdle finals. James finished sixth in the finals with a time of 14.06 seconds. Adding to her indoor season, James is a two-time All-American this season.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/hoskinson_taylor_qmkp">Taylor Hoskinson</a>&nbsp;placed 10th in the 1,500-meter finals, posting a time of 4:49.54.

The Blue Dragons closed out the 2024 championships with two runners in the 5,000-meter finals. Larson placed 11th with a time of 18:48.40. Freshman Jordyn Picolet was 24th with a time of 19:56.88.
