Janet A. Messing, 68, died May 10, 2024, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born September 14, 1955, in Wamego, to Donald J. and Mary E. (Chambers) Fath.
Janet volunteered at Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center, which lead her to pursue a career in mental health. She obtained her GED, her Bachelor’s degree from Bethel College in 1995, her Master’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1996. Over the years Janet worked for Hutchinson Correctional Facility through DCCCA, Ellsworth Correctional Facility, and Central Kansas Mental Health Center. She enjoyed volunteer work, watching Netflix, reading, listening to audiobooks, and going to the casino.
In 1986, she married Douglas Messing, in Hutchinson. They shared over 37 years of marriage, before her death.
Janet is survived by: her husband, Doug Messing of Hutchinson; daughter, Danielle (James) Wegener of Manitou Springs, CO; grandson, Sage Wegener of Manitou Springs, CO; sister, Kelly (Brad) Dunn of Hutchinson; brother, Kevin (Kelli) Fath of Topeka; and sister in-law Deb Fath of Wamego.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Dan Fath; and sister, Judy Hageman.
Celebration of Life will be held 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Dillon Nature Center Community Room.
