Melva Colleen Stockstill, 94, died May 20, 2024, at Legend of Hutchinson, KS. She was born October 8, 1929, in Nickerson, KS, to Melvin Erdman Thompson and Leona Mae (Bennett) Thompson.
Colleen was a graduate of Raymond High School, Raymond, KS, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, and Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson, KS. She was member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Colleen attended Baptist churches in Raymond, KS, and Hutchinson, KS.
She was a homemaker. Colleen and her husband reigned as the king and queen of the New Orleans, LA, Mardi Gras in 1973. She served as the president of the Newcomers Club of New Orleans.
On July 26, 1952, Colleen married Fred Dean Stockstill at the First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 68 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 3, 2020.
Colleen is survived by: her niece, Kathleen ‘Kathy’ (Duane) Carey of Hutchinson, KS; nephews, Mark (Beth) McKibben of Hutchinson, KS, and Steven (Kim) McKibben of Wichita, KS; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; infant sister, Doris Thompson; and sister, Alberta ‘Bobbie’ McKibben.
Graveside service for Colleen and Fred will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
