Ruth Ellen Oltmanns, 91, of Moundridge, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center, Wichita. She worked as a wallpaper installer when the children were younger. She later worked on the assembly lines at three different mobile home factories. Ruth also worked for Femco and Modern Products (both of McPherson), and then for Goering Hardware in Moundridge. Ruth was born on February 22, 1930, in Harper County, the daughter of Clyde William and Glorina Maybelle (Roach) McClaflin. She graduated from Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. She was united in marriage to Arnold William “Bill” Allenbach on April 17, 1948, in Anthony. This union was blessed with five children, Sandra (who was stillborn), Michael, Keith, Brenda, and Chrystle. On December 31, 1971, Ruth married Bob Lee Oltmanns at the First Baptist Church in McPherson. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2020. Ruth was an avid gardener and active in 4-H, judging food at the county and state fairs. She was on the Planning and Zoning Board for the City of Moundridge for 20 years and the board at Pine Village for five years, along with volunteering for many other organizations and boards. Survivors include: four children, Michael Allenbach (Cindy) of Inman,&nbsp; Keith Allenbach (Shelly) of Moundridge, Brenda Allenbach of Moundridge, and Chrystle Gehring (Jim) of Edmond, OK; half-sister, LaDeene Wickersham (John) of Salina; five grandchildren, Amanda Potts (Jim), Josh Allenbach (Kyla), Tammie Schmidt (John), Ann Lacey and Sarah Ruehlen; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends. A new music ensemble is debuting in Lindsborg next month, the Chamber Orchestra of the Smoky Valley! Supported by one of Bethany College's Presidential Strategic Grants and further supported by the Lindsborg Arts Council, the chamber orchestra is an auditioned, regional ensemble of professional musicians that includes not only some Bethany faculty members, but players from Wichita, Salina, and Hutchinson as well. 

Seeking to educate and engage audience members through the performance of orchestral masterworks, the ensemble will be under the musical direction of Dr. Keith Dodson, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Studies at Bethany, and led by concertmaster Ann Samuelson, Instructor of Upper Strings. 

While there are many symphonic orchestras in the central Kansas area, this ensemble is unique in terms of its smaller size. The size allows the group to create a level of intimacy in their performance and venues that creates a different concert experience from the large halls of symphonic orchestras.&nbsp;

The Chamber Orchestra of the Smoky Valley will perform their first concert on Sunday, October 24th, at 3:30 p.m. at the Swedish Pavilion of the Lindsborg Old Mill &amp; Swedish Heritage Museum. The concert will feature works by Richard Wagner, Frank Bridge, and Ludwig van Beethoven. The concert will be free to the public but donations are welcomed and encouraged.

New chamber orchestra in Lindsborg announces first performance

LIBERAL – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team hit a negative attack percentage for the second time this season as the No. 10 Seward County Saints rolled to a sweep on Tuesday night at the Greenhouse.

The Saints took advantage of the Blue Dragon offensive struggles and rolled to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-20 Jayhawk West victory. Hutchinson fell to 12-9 overall and 4-5 in the Jayhawk West. Seward County improved to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Hutchinson is off until Saturday when it takes on Cloud County at 2 p.m. and Highland at 4 p.m. in Concordia.

The Blue Dragons were out-hit .267 to a negative .022 in the match. The Saints had 33 kills to the Dragons 22 and the Saints out-blocked the Blue Dragons 10-3.

Seward County had five early blocks in racing out to leads of 11-3 and 20-6 in the opening set. Seward County hit .370 in the second set in scoring 18 of the set’s first 24 points.

Hutchinson rallied from a 10-6 deficit in the third set with a match-best 5-0 run to lead 11-10. The Dragons also led 12-11 and 13-12, but hit a negative .054 in the third set as Seward County completed the sweep.

Sophomore Kristina Head had a team-high seven kills with five digs to lead the Blue Dragons. Freshman Blondie Penaflor had six kills and freshman Baylee Miller had for kills.

Freshman setter Andrea Serrano had 15 assists. Freshman libero Amanda Velez had a team-high eight digs and sophomore Zoe Schmidt had seven digs.

Sarah Cruz had 10 kills and Seyun Park had seven kills to lead the Saints.

Last week, Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer player Hadlie Lowe recorded her first career hat trick. The Blue Dragon freshman forward, on Tuesday, earned her first Jayhawk Conference Division I Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honor.

The Wichita Kapaun-Mt. Carmel product scored her first career hat trick in Hutchinson’s lone match of the week, a 4-2 victory at Dodge City.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lowe’s hat trick is the 90th in Blue Dragon women’s soccer history.

Her third goal of the game was the game winner, giving her four game-winning goals this season.

After play last week, Lowe was tied for fifth in the KJCCC with eight goals. Her four game winners are tied for first in the KJCCC.

Moya named KJCCC Special Teams Player of the Week

Hutchinson, KS&nbsp;– After 34 years of service, Brenda Maxey, President and CEO of TECH, announces her retirement, starting a leadership transition process over the next 10 months. Maxey’s decision to retire will bring to close a remarkable career of 34 years of service to TECH.&nbsp;

“Brenda has tirelessly served the needs of our clients at TECH, as well as the entire organization, for 34 years. Her smile, energy and servant’s heart will be missed,” said Bob Capps, Chairman of the TECH Operations Board of Directors.

“It’s been an honor to serve as the President and CEO of TECH for the last 22 years. I am proud of the impact that TECH makes every single day. We have a remarkable team providing the highest quality of services to people with disabilities in Hutchinson, helping those individuals live the very best life possible. And our community – they have embraced the people we serve, allowing TECH to become a part of the fabric that weaves our community together,” says Maxey.

The TECH board of directors has been working to identify a successor for Maxey and are excited to announce that Kevin Hess, Vice President of Business and Finance for TECH, has been named as the new CEO for the organization. “Kevin’s hire three years ago was very purposeful. While he was a great candidate for the Vice President role, his skills and capabilities far exceeded the position of CFO,” says Maxey. She went on to say, “I have all the confidence in Kevin’s ability to lead the team and the organization to the next level.”

“Brenda spoke with the executive committee of the board in March 2021 about her interest in retiring and beginning a successorship for the CEO position.&nbsp; She gave us plenty of time to prepare for her departure and plan for the organization’s next steps,” says Capps. He went on to say, “Kevin brings a long and successful business career as well as having been the CFO at TECH for the past 3 years. He will be a wonderful successor for Brenda and will continue to grow TECH in the community.”

“I’ve been very strategic in the planning of this (retirement), it has never been about a specific date, but more about the right time. It was important to me that we had a very strong team in place, and I feel the time is right and I can’t wait to see what this team is capable of,” says Maxey.

Maxey started her career with TECH in 1988 as a Residential Services Coordinator for the agency after working as a Direct Support Staff in Colorado while attending college. Since then, she has had an opportunity to sit in nearly every seat of the organization, offering her a unique perspective as a leader and CEO. In 1999, Maxey became the second CEO in TECH’s history, behind her long-time mentor, the late Maurice Cummings. During her time as CEO, Maxey said she has experienced many great accomplishments as well as unexpected challenges.

During Maxey’s tenure, she has guided the organization through several significant projects including, the start of the e-Cycle program in 2009 and the TECH Art Program in 2010; the beginning of a partnership with Manske &amp; Associates which yielded the creation of the TECH Art Gallery, relocation of the TECH Administrative Offices into the Wiley Building and the brand-new construction of The Link, a 29-unit apartment complex in Downtown Hutchinson for people with developmental disabilities and aging residents; the expansion of our elder care program, including the creation of TECH retirement homes over the last 20 years. Maxey has also been very active at the State and National levels, holding officer positions with both the State and National Associations, while advocating on behalf of people with disabilities.

Maxey leaves the organization in solid financial standing with a team that she has the utmost confidence in. “I still plan to be involved in the organization, certainly as a supporter, but will continue my advocacy roles at the local, state and national levels because advocating for people with disabilities is and always will be a passion of mine,” says Maxey. “While I plan to sit back, take a breath and see what my next chapter looks like, I know that TECH will always be a part of my future.”

Maxey’s retirement date is set for July 1, 2022.

TECH's longtime CEO announces retirement, vice-president to be promoted

As we celebrate the 150th birthday of Hutchinson and Reno County, we want to go through the years, decade by decade, to see how things have changed and — remarkably — how they have stayed the same. This would not be possible without the efforts of Steve Harmon, the Reno County Museum, and the Hutchinson Public Library, who have made a great effort to supply us with the information and photos that you’ll see in this 15-part series. We hope you enjoy it.

The war was over and 102 Reno County men lost their lives, but the soldiers had returned home and many new additions to the city and county were a part of the 1920s. There was also loss and two major weather events.

1920: The first paved road connected Hutchinson and Nickerson. It was a big event with more than 15,000 residents showing up for the road’s dedication. More than 40 quarters of barbecue beef were served.

St. Elizabeth's Hospital was dedicated and served the area for many years until what is now Hutchinson Regional Medical Center was constructed.

&nbsp;Another bank comes to Hutchinson as Salt City Savings and Loan is incorporated. Emerson Carey is the president. That same year, Carey donates 200 acres of land near the Arkansas River for a new public park. The park is named in his honor.

The Grandview School is planned and Roosevelt School at 16th and Adams is constructed.

A parcel of land at 16th and Main is purchased for the Trinity Methodist Church.

1921: Scandal hits the Reno County Courthouse with bribery and price-fixing charges brought in connection with a road paving project in Medora. A grand jury indicts a local businessman and two county commissioners resigned. Armed guards are posted at the courthouse after records disappear. The county engineer flees to California.

Plans are put in place for a new Masonic temple in the city.

The third state convention of the American Legion is held in Hutchinson.

Hutchinson residents complain they pay more for gasoline than in other communities.

Hutchinson hosts the State Sunday School convention. Thousands attend at the convention hall and march down Main Street.

The Boy Scouts Council is organized in Hutchinson.

1922: Carey Park was officially dedicated on May 21, 1922. The municipal band plays for the crowd and many residents bring a picnic lunch and have dinner in the park. The only stipulation from Emerson Carey in donating the 200 acres for the park is that the city levy $5,000 a year for the park's upkeep. Much of the brass and copper used for lamps and vases used in the park made from moonshine stills were confiscated by authorities.

Another familiar name becomes a part of Hutchinson after J.D. Hall resigns as the Hutchinson Schools superintendent. He’s replaced by Winfield resident J.W. Gowans.

Nettie Keys is named Vice President of the Business and Professional Women's Club.

The Salvation Army gives out 481 Thanksgiving dinners to area residents — a tradition that still goes on today.

Prisoner James Porter, who was at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with a gunshot wound, escapes.

The gas company threatens to cut off service to customers for not being able to pay the service charge.

Hutchinson's economy is boosted by tens of thousands of visitors to many conventions. Most stay at the campgrounds at the state fairgrounds.

The music supervisor at Hutchinson High School bans provocative jazz music.

A Reno County farmer is robbed of thousands of dollars in bootlegged whiskey. To add insult to injury, the sheriff’s department confiscates what isn’t stolen.

Thirty-five reformatory inmates are paroled so they can help with a bumper harvest.

1923: President Warren G. Harding visits Hutchinson and helps a local farmer with the wheat harvest. He also speaks to thousands at the state fair and plays golf with another familiar name, Sen. Arthur Clapper.

A tornado rips through the small community of Partridge; it never completely recovers from the storm.

The Carey Salt Mine is dedicated by Gov. Johnathan Davis.

A smallpox outbreak closes school for four weeks. The reformatory is put in quarantine to slow the spread in prison.

The county treasurer resigns for negligence with the county funds at a failed bank. The bank president flees the area but is arrested and convicted.

An imprisoned banker becomes the focus of a statehouse scandal when the outgoing governor is charged with bribery in an effort to pardon the banker and others.

1926: Another company with a long tradition in Hutchinson opened in 1926. Betts Bakery was a fixture of the city for many years at 120 E. 3rd Ave.

After starting small, the new Trinity Methodist Church is finished at the corner of 17th and Main.

Main Street in Buhler gets a needed facelift with more than 300 tons of gravel laid down.&nbsp;

Fourteen civil war veterans march in Hutchinson’s annual Memorial Day Parade.

The harvest in Reno County is tops in the state with more than 6.79 million bushels taken in.

With crime on the rise, a group of citizens form the Vigilance Committee to stop a wave of banditry. A reward is offered for bandits and burglars, dead or alive.

Thelma Adrian of Buhler is recognized for never being late or absent from school in 12 years.

The Stamey Construction Company builds the addition onto the high school that will become the new junior college that is planned for the city.

Veteran contractor J.H. Shears dies. His sons George, Frank and Will take over the business that still stands today.

The Adams Street bridge over Cow Creek is built.

In 1927, there were more than $3.5 million in building permits issued with more than 200 homes built.

A local packing plant slaughtered more than 10,000 cattle and 25,000 hogs that year.

1928: A special election is held to establish the new junior college. A former junior high principal is named the school's first dean, C.M. Lockman. There are 11 faculty and 209 students in the first year.

Krause Manufacturing was established in 1928 and still builds farm equipment in Hutchinson to this day.

Hutchinson was becoming the center of the grain industry as Grain Belt Company and Western Terminal built new grain elevators. The area elevators get much bigger in the coming years.

Hutchinson Foundry and Steel is established. George Randall is president, C.B. Scanland is vice president and J.P. O’Sullivan is treasurer.

The grandstand at the Kansas State Fair is constructed using mostly inmates from the reformatory. The facility has seating for 12,000 fans. Inmate laborers are still a major part of the fairgrounds maintenance and upkeep year-round.

Two major bond issues are approved by the city. The first is $75,000 for the new municipal airport and the second is $38,500 for a new swimming pool at Carey Park.

Richardson Auditorium is dedicated at Hutchinson High School.

1929: The other major weather event in Hutchinson during the 1920s happened July 13, 1929, when the Cow Creek levee failed, sending a rush of flood water through the city. Most of the downtown area was under three-to-four feet of water and many homes and businesses were damaged.

The Red Cross provided assistance to 144 families hurt by the flood. Damage totals $2.5 million, or about $40 million today.

The first traffic lights were installed in the city.

A fact that still is true today, Reno County leads the state of Kansas in paved roads with 84 miles.&nbsp;

An automobile tag facility is built at the reformatory.

South Hutchinson Grade School is closed after a diphtheria outbreak.

The stock market crash seems to have little impact on Hutchinson.

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital opens a new nursing home.

This would not be possible without the efforts of Steve Harmon, the Reno County Museum, and the Hutchinson Public Library, who have made a great effort to supply us with the information and photos that you’ll see in this 15-part series. We hope you enjoy it.The war was over and 102 Reno County men lost their lives, but the soldiers had returned home and many new additions to the city and county were a part of the 1920s. There was also loss and two major weather events.1920: The first paved road connected Hutchinson and Nickerson. It was a big event with more than 15,000 residents showing up for the road’s dedication. More than 40 quarters of barbecue beef were served.St. Elizabeth's Hospital was dedicated and served the area for many years until what is now Hutchinson Regional Medical Center was constructed.<figure>

That same year, Carey donates 200 acres of land near the Arkansas River for a new public park. The park is named in his honor.The Grandview School is planned and Roosevelt School at 16th and Adams is constructed.A parcel of land at 16th and Main is purchased for the Trinity Methodist Church.<figure>

 </figure>1921: Scandal hits the Reno County Courthouse with bribery and price-fixing charges brought in connection with a road paving project in Medora. A grand jury indicts a local businessman and two county commissioners resigned. Armed guards are posted at the courthouse after records disappear. The county engineer flees to California.Plans are put in place for a new Masonic temple in the city.The third state convention of the American Legion is held in Hutchinson.Hutchinson residents complain they pay more for gasoline than in other communities.Hutchinson hosts the State Sunday School convention. Thousands attend at the convention hall and march down Main Street.The Boy Scouts Council is organized in Hutchinson.1922: Carey Park was officially dedicated on May 21, 1922. The municipal band plays for the crowd and many residents bring a picnic lunch and have dinner in the park. The only stipulation from Emerson Carey in donating the 200 acres for the park is that the city levy $5,000 a year for the park's upkeep. Much of the brass and copper used for lamps and vases used in the park made from moonshine stills were confiscated by authorities.<figure>

The Decades: 1920s

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After a disappointing start to the fall season, Hutchinson Community College (1-2) used 409 rushing yards and 564 yards of total offense to down Fort Scott (0-4) Saturday night.

Anwar Lewis had more than half of Hutchinson's rushing yards (210). "Any time you average 11 yards a carry is pretty special," head coach Drew Dallas said after the game.

The Blue Dragons started 0-2 after winning the national championship in the spring. "Winning a college football game is a hard thing to do, as we learned the first two games of the season," Dallas said.

The Dragons had a week off to prepare for Fort Scott, a team that has not won since November of 2019. The Greyhounds played three games in the spring before cancelling the remainder of the season.

Lewis picked up where running back Jaheim Simmons left off. Simmons entered in goal-to-go situations and punched in two touchdowns for the Blue Dragons in the first half. His runs came from 1 and 3 yards out, respectively.

Dylan Laible threw a 19-yard TD pass to Russell Wilkey and C.J. Moya added two field goals in the first 18 minutes to put Hutchinson up 20-0. Simmons' second TD run added to the lead before Fort Scott scored with 1:06 before the half. It is the third touchdown just before the half Hutchinson has given up in as many games. The extra point was blocked and the Greyhounds did not score again.

Hutchinson struggled in the third quarter against Butler, but thrived behind the strong running of Anwar Lewis against Fort Scott. Lewis scored twice in the third quarter. His 9-yard run capped a 9-play, 75-yard drive before he had a quick-strike from 36 yards away.

Backup quarterback Daisean Cash entered the contest with Hutchinson leading by 35. He added a 4-yard touchdown pass to Rykem Laney just before the end of the third quarter.

Tim Byrd Jr. and Alec McCuan finished the night strong for the Hutchinson running attack. Byrd Jr. rushed for 37 yards while McCuan added 57. Corey McKnight also had 58 yards.

Anwar Lewis stole the show with 210 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Dylan Laible threw for 132 yards and one TD. Cash completed two passes for 24 yards and one touchdown. Cash also carried the ball once for 27 yards.

Fort Scott came into the contest averaging negative 7 yards per game on the ground. The Greyhounds finished with negative 26 yards rushing on Saturday. Hutchinson held Fort Scott to 138 yards of total offense.

"Any time you average 11 yards a carry is pretty special," head coach Drew Dallas said after the game.The Blue Dragons started 0-2 after winning the national championship in the spring. "Winning a college football game is a hard thing to do, as we learned the first two games of the season," Dallas said.The Dragons had a week off to prepare for Fort Scott, a team that has not won since November of 2019. The Greyhounds played three games in the spring before cancelling the remainder of the season.Lewis picked up where running back Jaheim Simmons left off. Simmons entered in goal-to-go situations and punched in two touchdowns for the Blue Dragons in the first half. His runs came from 1 and 3 yards out, respectively.Dylan Laible threw a 19-yard TD pass to Russell Wilkey and C.J. Moya added two field goals in the first 18 minutes to put Hutchinson up 20-0. Simmons' second TD run added to the lead before Fort Scott scored with 1:06 before the half. It is the third touchdown just before the half Hutchinson has given up in as many games. Dragons get first win of season

GREAT BEND – Sophomores Kristina Head and Zoe Schmidt posted double-doubles and the Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team had a higher attack percentage and out-blocked and out-dug the Barton Cougars on Friday night.

Still, the Cougars prevailed over the Blue Dragon in four sets – 19-25, 25-17, 25-10, 19-25 – in a Jayhawk West battle at the Barton Gym.

The Blue Dragons saw their three-match winning streak snapped. Hutch fell to 12-8 overall and 4-4 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson travels to Seward County on Tuesday. Barton improved 14-8 overall and 5-1 in the league.

After dropping the first two sets – Hutch had a 23-19 lead in the second set before losing 27-25 – the Blue Dragons dominated the third set, hitting .636 en route to a 25-10 victory. Barton quickly responded in the fourth, scoring the first six points of the fourth set and Hutchinson couldn’t complete the comeback.

Schmidt’s first double-double of the season, consisted of season highs of 16 kills and 15 digs on .462 hitting. Schmidt also had four block assists.

Head had 15 kills and 10 digs in her first double-double of the season. Head added four total blocks and three service aces.

The Blue Dragons hit .310 for the match on 55 kills, 142 attacks and 11 errors. The Dragons out-blocked Barton 8-1 and out-dug the Cougars 74-66. Barton hit .262 on 62 kills, 168 attacks and 18 errors.

Sophie Connor and Morgan Harvey had eight kills each for the Blue Dragons. Harvey also had eight digs, four total blocks and three service aces. Connor added 10 digs.

Freshman setter Andrea Serrano had 39 assists and six digs. Freshman libero Amanda Velez had 12 digs.

Barton was led by Tasiah Nunnery, who had a match-high 17 kills on .455 hitting. Maria Santos had 13 kills on .333 hitting and Mylena Testoni had 11 kills.

SET 1: Tied at 4-all, Barton used a 6-0 run to gain an early advantage. A Nunnery ace and Buse Kocakaya solo block upped the lead to 16-8. Trailing 17-10, the Dragons reeled off five unanswered points and pulled within 17-15 on a Head/Harvey double block. Another Head kill – she had four kills and Schmidt had five kills in the opening set – cut the Dragon deficit to 19-17. The Cougars scored on 6 of the last 8 points in the second. Barton out-hit the Dragons .244-.125.

SET 2: Schmidt had a solo block and a kill on consecutive rallies to give the Dragons a 10-5 lead. Back-to-back Head kills snapped a 6-1 Barton run and start a 4-1 Hutch run. Another Head kill gave the Dragons a 16-12 lead. Leading 20-19, the Dragons built a 23-19 lead and had a 24-22 lead after a Head kill. The Cougars fought off two set points and took a 25-24 lead on a Testoni kill. A Head kill then tied the set at 25, but Barton scored the final two points to win the deuce set.

SET 3: The Blue Dragons scored on 14 of the set’s first 17 rallies and never looked back. A Harvey kill gave Hutch a 7-3 lead. A Harvey ace pushed the advantage of 12-4. Dragons drop KJCCC match in four set at Barton

Nancy Gail (Bridgman) Koehn, 77, passed away September 23, 2021, in Newton.

She was born March 27, 1944, in Newton, the daughter of James Howard and Charlene Mae (Sanner) Bridgman.

Nancy was raised in Newton. In 1995 she graduated from Hutchinson Community College, receiving her degree in nursing. During her nursing career she worked at New Hope in Valley Center (1995 – 2000) and Methodist Youthville (2000 – 2006) and later became a private homecare nurse before retiring in 2009.

Nancy was united in marriage to Kenneth Koehn, he preceded her in death. Together Nancy and Kenny were active in the JC’s.

For many years Nancy decorated cakes for a living, something she not only had a talent for but also greatly enjoyed.

An avid bowler she participated in a bowling league. She adored both cats and dogs equally.

Nancy was a very generous and caring person and would help out anyone in need. She will be deeply missed.

Nancy is survived by her partner, Ray Crannell; son, Steven (Madalina) Killfoil; son-in-law, Patrick Lee; grandchildren, Austin Lee and Quentin Dickey; and great-grandchildren, Avery and Aspen Lee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Koehn; daughter, Lisa Lee; and brother, Jim Bridgman.

A funeral service will be at 2:30p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. A visitation will take place at the funeral home the hour prior at 1:30p.m.. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Thelda (Jane) Miles Adams, age 96, departed this earthly life in Mt. Hope, KS to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. 

Jane was born October 9, 1924 in Great Bend, KS, to Lowell and Dora Willcut.  Upon the death of Dora in 1926, Lowell married Elizabeth Willcut, Jane’s Stepmother.

Jane grew up in the country outside of Great Bend, KS.  She attended Prairie Home Elementary and Great Bend High School.  After High School, Jane attended Wichita Business College and met her husband Dewey L. Miles and was married November 13, 1943. Dewey and Jane made their home in Mt. Hope, KS for almost 56 years.  To their union, three children were born: Janice 9/5/45, Kent 9/24/50 and Michelle 12/04/58.  After Dewey’s death in 1999, Jane married a high school classmate, Harold D. Adams August 26, 2000 and they continued to live in Mt. Hope, KS for 13 years.

For most of Jane’s life, she was a homemaker with the exception of 16 years (1971-1987) where she was the Mt. Hope Grade School Secretary.  These were some of her favorite years where she developed life long relationships with parents, teachers and students. 

Jane was an active member of Mt. Hope Federated Church (Now Mt. Hope Bible Fellowship), Women’s Bible Study, Eastern Star, Friendly Notes, American Legion Auxiliary, EHU, Garden Club and Bridge Club. Jane enjoyed knitting, cooking, painting, ceramics and collecting angels, bells and butterflies.  Jane loved to volunteer to help others in need, loved life, family and traveling.

Jane was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Next to God, her family and friends were her greatest treasures and she loved them all with a deep caring affection. Jane has been a blessing to so many through the years and her love will be sorely missed.

The family wishes to thank Jane’s caregivers and Phoenix Hospice for their unwavering support, love and kindness.

The Blue Dragons hit .506 in a quick 25-13, 25-9, 25-6 Jayhawk West victory over Pratt.

Hutchinson has won 5 of its last 6 matches and improved to 12-7 overall and is above .500 in league play at 4-3. Pratt fell to 7-12 overall and 0-5 in the Jayhawk West. The Blue Dragons travel to Barton on Friday night.

The Blue Dragons had 42 team kills on 77 total attacks and only three attack errors in their .506 hitting percentage. The Dragons hit .500 in the opening set, .381 in the second set and a whopping .615 on 26 attacks in the final set.

This was the eighth time in team history that the Blue Dragons hit better than .500 in a match – all eight matches were three-set wins. The last time the Blue Dragons had a match of .500 or better hitting was a .511 attack percentage in a sweep of Garden City on September 28, 2009.

Sophomore Kristina Head had a match-high 10 kills on .833 hitting (12 attacks, 0 errors). That tied Kim Rausch (2002) for the fourth-highest single-match attack percentage with a player of 10 or more kills in a match. Head added three block assists.
