Hutchinson Community College sophomore runner Louise Cocking was named the Jayhawk Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week after an exceptional outing at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday in Joplin, Missouri.

Cocking, a sophomore from Derbyshire, UK, posted the third-fastest 5,000-meter cross country time in Blue Dragon women’s history at the MSSU Stampede. She broke 19 minutes for the first time in her Hutchinson career with a time of 18:56.42. Her previous-best time was 19:05.94 in her fifth-place NJCAA Championship finish.

Cocking finished fourth at the Stampede, her sixth career Top 5 finish with the Blue Dragons.

Cocking is the first Blue Dragon women cross country runner to earn weekly conference honor since Lisayo Ewoi in 2018.

The Blue Dragons are off this weekend and will run at the Region VI Preview on Saturday, October 2 in Colby.
