Edwin Thaine “Ed” Coons |1943-2022|

Edwin Thaine “Ed” Coons, 79, of Hutchinson, died December 28, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.  He was born November 13, 1943, in Hutchinson to Joseph Thaine and Pearl Edith (Sickman) Coons.

Ed graduated from Wichita South High School and Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, with a minor in English and Chemistry. He worked for Beech Aircraft in the marketing department, became a stockbroker before joining Bank IV Wichita and retired as Executive Vice President in charge of investments and trusts at First National Bank of Hutchinson.  Ed was an avid writer, golfer, hunter and fisherman and proud grandfather and great-grandfather.  He loved WSU basketball, high school football and sports of all kinds. He served as an Elder and Trustee at First Presbyterian Church and served on the boards of the Hutchinson Public Library, YMCA, and Hutchinson Town Club. 

On November 17, 1973, Ed married Dianne Arnold Reeves, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, in Wichita.  They shared 49 years of marriage together.

Ed is survived by: wife, Dianne, of Hutchinson; sons:  Scott Thomas Reeves Coons (Elizabeth) of Lawrence, KS; Bradley Arnold Reeves Coons (Kristin) of Manhattan Beach, CA; and Timothy Thaine Coons (Betony) of Greeley, CO; grandchildren: Kolby (Alexandra) Coons & Jacob Coons of Scottsdale; Evan, William, & Caden Coons of Manhattan Beach; Lucy, Harriet, Beatrice, and Arthur Coons of Greeley; and great-grandchild Lincoln Scott Coons of Scottsdale.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Pearl, and sister Linda Monroe.

Family visitation will take place Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 4-6 pm in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church Hutchinson, 201 E. Sherman.  A Celebration of Life will be Friday, January 6, 2023, at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Christy Kass and Keith Neill officiating.  A private family inurnment will take place.  Friends may sign the book from 9 am to 5 pm Friday, December 30 to Thursday, January 5 at Elliott Mortuary.
