Ezra J. “J.R.” Yoder, 88, of South Hutchinson, went to meet the Lord, on October 15, 2025, at Mennonite Friendship Communities. He was born July 21, 1937, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, to Ezra Sr. and Jemima (Mullet) Yoder.

Ezra grew up in the Old Order Amish church and was a member of Plainview Mennonite Church for many years. He worked as a custodian for Elreka Grade School and Partridge Elementary School. Later in life, Ezra would transport members of the Amish community to visit friends and relatives to different places. He enjoyed spending his free time hunting and loved fishing. Given the opportunity, Ezra would be found at the closest watering hole with his fishing pole.

On November 26, 1959, he married Fern Yoder in Garnett, Kansas. They shared 65 wonderful years together before his death.

Ezra is survived by: beloved wife, Fern Yoder of South Hutchinson; children, Darrell (Ruby) Yoder of Yoder, Carol (Ron) Helsel of West Jefferson, OH, Dave (Carolyn) Yoder of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Miriam (Bryant) Yoder, Marilyn Fisk (Caleb Stephens), Wade (Courteney) Beachy, Garrett (Allyson) Beachy, Jennifer (Zach) Riehl, Kristen (Jared) Yoder, and Megan Yoder; great-grandchildren, Clark and Carter Yoder, Casey Fisk, Emme and Titus Beachy, Cooper, Milo, and Edie Beachy, Brecken, Kayden and London Riehl, Axel, Tenley and Paxton Yoder; sister, Lena Miller of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.

After moving to Hutchinson, Marietta started gardening and found that she had a green thumb for tomatoes, peppers, and flowers. She was a very hard worker and was full of strength.&nbsp;

Marietta is survived by: beloved husband, Michael Morris of Hutchinson; sister, Lorna Tacelly; niece, Josoline Boy; and many beloved friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel. Friends may sign her book Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Weymeth L. “W.L.” Harrison, 88, died October 12, 2025, at Hospice House - Hutchinson. He was born December 1, 1936, on the family farm in rural Pratt County, to Henry E. and Opal E. (Henry) Harrison.

Weymeth graduated from Byers High School in 1954. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Education Degree from Fort Hays State University, Masters from Emporia State University and his Specialist Degree from Wichita State University. Weymeth, or as some knew him, W.L., was a middle school science teacher and later became the principal for Geneseo K-12. He loved farming. In 1972 he left education to go back to work on the family farm near Pratt, KS. He farmed until he retired. On August 13, 1961, he married Carol Elizabeth Parsons in Greeley, CO. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. After retiring from farming, they liked traveling in their RV and visiting their relatives in Colorado. He enjoyed being outside doing yard work and drinking his daily morning coffee with friends.

Weymeth is survived by: his wife; nephew, Jeff Carlson; and niece, Julie Williamson.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; and brother, Edd Harrison.

Cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time.

Frank Lamont “Monty” Stout, 76, passed away October 11, 2025, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. &nbsp;He was born June 23, 1949, to Donald and Patricia (Clough) Stout in Sterling, Kansas. &nbsp;

On March 11, 1978, Monty married Linda Motko. &nbsp;They celebrated over 47 years of marriage.

Monty was working at Dillon's warehouse when he heard the road calling. &nbsp;He attended Kansas City Driving School to become an “official” driver in 1972…not that he needed the piece of paper. He left Dillon's in 1978 to become an “outlaw” driver. &nbsp;Monty drove over 8.5 million miles and became friends with many drivers from all across the United States. &nbsp;He has now completed his final run.

Monty is survived by his: wife, Linda; children, Jacob Stout (Cat) of Hutchinson, Zachary Stout (Morgan) of Gardner, Monica Smiley (Todd) of Golden, MO, and two others from a previous marriage; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sheri Stout and Peggy Thomas.

He was preceded in death his: parents; daughter, Joey Tatro; and grandson, Tucker Stout.

Caroline Helen McKee, 87, formerly of Hutchinson, died October 11, 2025, at Brookdale Senior Living in McPherson. &nbsp;She was born March 10, 1938, in Wild Cherry, AR, to Raymond Orland and Grace Teresa (Conway) Shong.

Caroline graduated from Ellinwood High School, Hutchinson Community Junior College, and received her bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University. &nbsp;She worked over 20 years for the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS), in the Food Stamp program (now known as Kansas Department for Children and Families or DCF). &nbsp;After retiring from SRS, Caroline worked at the Hutchinson Public Library. &nbsp;She was elegant, yet onery, and enjoyed riding on the back of her son, Christopher’s motorcycle. &nbsp;Caroline also had an appreciation for horses, plants, and cats. &nbsp;She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Caroline was of the Catholic faith.

Caroline is survived by: &nbsp;son, Christopher McKee (Rhonda) of McPherson; daughter, Teresa Schartz of Texas; grandchildren, Devin McKee (Amanda) of Bennington, KS, Kaley McKee of Moundridge, Jonas Jones of Texas, and Candace Valadez (Kristopher) of South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Brooke McWhorter, Brady McKee, Bryley Roush, Brett Edwards, and Brin Edwards; and her two spoiled feline babies.&nbsp;

Caroline H. McKee |1938-2025|

Nellie May Rinkel, 75, the daughter of George and Velma Hackler, was born on April 20, 1950, in Beaver, Oklahoma. &nbsp;She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. &nbsp;She graduated from Sylvia High School in 1969. She was a part of Sylvia High School's final graduating class. While in school, she enjoyed playing sports and working on the family farm. After graduating, she moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, and held various positions, including working at a yarn shop, laundromat, and Lowen Sign Company.

On November 14, 1970, she married Stanley Royce Rinkel. What started as a blind date ended in 54 years of marriage. Nellie and Stan embraced traveling adventures, exploring the back roads of Colorado, Texas, and Missouri on motorcycles and camping along the way. One of her passions was spending time outside in the garden, growing vegetables and flowers. Before having children of their own, they fostered. They were blessed with raising four children. Nellie's greatest joy was her family. There were no obstacles too big when it came to Nellie's devotion to her children. In addition to all the normal motherly duties, Nellie homeschooled her children. She learned to swim at the age of 38 to teach her daughter, and she later became a lifeguard.

Nellie was a member of the Church of Christ. She spent her time serving various ministries, including the soup kitchen, bus program, VBS, clothing room, and WBS ministry. Her faith guided her throughout all of life's challenges.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Velma Hackler; daughter Vicky Rinkel, and brother-in-law Mike Suiter.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Stanley Rinkel, her children; Chari Rinkel, Samuel Rinkel (Brittany) and Chris Rinkel of Hutchinson; Sisters, Georgie (Tom) Barger of Houston, Margie Suiter of Greenville Texas; Brothers, Ralph (Debbie) Hackler and Bill (Shirley) Hackler of Hutchinson; Grandchildren; Cohen Evans, Cooper Rinkel, Jude McCullers and Adrian McCullers of Hutchinson; many nieces and nephews; a host of friends.&nbsp;

Wallace Eugene “Wally” Farthing, 89, died October 11, 2025, at The Arbors at Waldron Place, Hutchinson. He was born on January 30, 1936, in Hutchinson, to Lewis Sylvester and Lulu Wavey (Trotter) Farthing.

Wally graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1954 and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1958, serving for eight months. Wally worked at ADM Mill, Inman, for over 30 years, retiring as the supervisor of the mill. He enjoyed being the pitcher in his church’s softball league, as well as being a youth group leader. Wally was a Girl Scout Troop leader for his daughters’ troop. He enjoyed bowling with his bowling league on Thursday nights. Wally was a handyman and could fix everything that he worked on. He was an outdoorsman and loved spending time camping and fishing at Kanopolis Lake. Wally liked to hunt frogs, pheasants and quail. He had a servant’s heart; Wally loved to help everyone he met. Wally was a member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

On December 29, 1958, he married Sarah Ann Pankratz, in Buhler. They shared over 38 years of marriage, prior to her death on June 28, 1997.

He was born on January 30, 1936, in Hutchinson, to Lewis Sylvester and Lulu Wavey (Trotter) Farthing.Wally graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1954 and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1958, serving for eight months. Wally worked at ADM Mill, Inman, for over 30 years, retiring as the supervisor of the mill. He enjoyed being the pitcher in his church’s softball league, as well as being a youth group leader. Wally was a Girl Scout Troop leader for his daughters’ troop. He enjoyed bowling with his bowling league on Thursday nights. Wally was a handyman and could fix everything that he worked on. He was an outdoorsman and loved spending time camping and fishing at Kanopolis Lake. Wally liked to hunt frogs, pheasants and quail. He had a servant’s heart; Wally loved to help everyone he met. Wally was a member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;On December 29, 1958, he married Sarah Ann Pankratz, in Buhler. Ann W. Smith, 86, of rural Inman, Kansas, peacefully passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, with family by her side.

She was born on March 11, 1939, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Marvin W. and Ida (Kingsley) White. Following her mother’s passing when Ann was just nine days old, her father later married Ida’s dear friend, Gertrude, who helped raise Ann as her own.

Ann graduated from McPherson High School and went on to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Kansas. She dedicated 38 years to teaching mathematics, beginning her career in the Kansas City area in the early 1960s. In 1965, she joined the faculty at Hutchinson Community College, where she taught until her retirement in 2000. In recognition of her lasting impact on students and colleagues, she was the recipient of the Golden Dragon award, and in 2005, she was honored with the Distinguished Faculty Member award.

On July 20, 1963, Ann was united in marriage to Wayne Edward Smith at Prairie Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. The couple began their married life in Lawrence before moving to the White family farm in 1965. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Jeffrey Wayne and Michael Scott. Ann and Wayne shared 57 years of marriage before Wayne’s passing on October 19, 2020.

Ann had a deep love for the family farm and remained actively involved, even driving the tractor until just a year and a half ago. Over the years, she witnessed and embraced many changes in farming technology. She was also a skilled cook—her bierocks, meatloaf, and fried chicken were family favorites.

Though private by nature, Ann cherished a close circle of dear friends. She and Wayne shared a love for travel, taking memorable trips to New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, and Hawaii. She also traveled through her involvement with the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In her free time, Ann enjoyed reading, sewing, and cross-stitching.

Above all, Ann loved her family. She was proud of her sons and deeply fond of her grandchildren. Living just a mile from each of her sons allowed her to remain at home until just three days before her passing.

Ann is survived by her sons, Jeff Smith (Holly) of Windom, KS, and Mike Smith (Nancy) of Inman, KS; seven grandchildren: Thomas Smith (Elizabeth), Emily Smith, Amber Smith, Megan Beck (Tucker), Ethan Coon, Steven Storm (Chastity), and Mallorie Suffield (Braden); two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Beck and Lincoln Beck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Ida White, and her stepmother, Gertrude White.

The Smith family extends their heartfelt thanks to Ann's dedicated caregiver, Sheryl Dick, as well as the compassionate team at Hospice &amp; Homecare of Reno County, for the love and care they provided to Ann.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with Pastor John Stultz officiating. Inurnment will follow at North Inman Cemetery.

David graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 1973. &nbsp;He retired from working in maintenance at Lowen Sign Company. &nbsp;David enjoyed hunting for rocks and fossils, gathering Native American artifacts, and attending swap meets.

He is survived by: &nbsp;brothers, Alan Woerz (Caryl) of Hutchinson and Mark Woerz (Chris Beyer) of St. Louis; nieces, Amanda Beals (Scott), Lisa Woerz, and Cynthia Woerz; great-nieces, Taylor and Brooklyn Beals; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Rebecca Dee “Becky” Hageman, 73, of Wichita, went to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 7, 2025, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. She was born January 27, 1952, in Dodge City, to Raymond and Betty (McLaughlin) Walden.

Becky graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1970, Hutchinson Community College, and the University of Kansas. She taught medical records classes at Hutchinson Community College and Hesston College for many years, in addition to working in medical records at Halstead Hospital and Hutchinson Hospital. Known for her quirky sense of humor, Becky enjoyed working in her flower garden and raising house plants, researching ancestry and genealogy, and international travel – visiting many places in Europe. She also enjoyed singing in Sing Out Reno County when she lived in Hutchinson. Becky was also a dog lover and loved long walks with her many fur babies over the years. She was a board member of Bukovina Society of the Americas.

On November 27, 1981, Becky married John A. Hageman at Union Valley Bible Church, in Hutchinson. He survives.

Also surviving are: her sister; Rae Lynn Barton of Buhler; nieces, Tammy Hoskinson (Greg) of Hutchinson, Lanette Quint (Michael) of Creede, CO, Renee Becker (Eric) of Andover; nephew, Chris Barton of Olathe, half-siblings, Andy Wilpolt of Pleasant Hill, CA, Carrie Wilpolt of Pepperell, MA, Mark Wilpolt of Chico, CA, Matthew Wilpolt of Oakland, CA; her faithful German Shepherd mix companion, Max; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and half-brother, Jay Wilpolt.

Joan graduated from Raymond High School in 1950. She worked as a hostess throughout her life at many restaurants in Hutchinson, retiring from Applebee’s at the age of 71. Joan enjoyed tending to her flower beds. She loved to cook and bake; her family loved everything that she would make. Joan cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by: her children, Evelyn Decker, Lisa Considine, Tim Decker, Ted Decker and Toby Decker, all of Hutchinson, Tracy (Rod) Urish of Lawerence; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Floyd Eugene “Gene” Betterton, 74, passed away October 6, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. &nbsp;He was born November 22, 1950, to Howard Wayne and Agnes Lola (Parris) Betterton in Nowata, OK.

Gene was married to Debra Kay Talbot for over 30 years before her passing on July 1, 2020.

Gene was an amazing man- the best father and papa! &nbsp;Loved by everyone, he made friends wherever he went. &nbsp;He was known for his orneriness, always joking around. &nbsp;Gene loved spending time with his family and many friends he made during his stay at the nursing home and enjoying a beer or two.

He worked as a forklift driver and later as a fry cook at KFC for over ten years before retiring. &nbsp;He would beat anyone brave enough to take him on in a game of pool and was known as the king of dominos and bingo at Diversicare in Hutchinson. &nbsp;

Gene is survived by his: daughters, Debra Betterton (Alicia “Fred” Rothstein), Amanda Betterton, Amy Cross (Gene Reid), Jeannette Crossno (Ralph, Jr.); son, Kenny McKay; grandchildren, Brody, Clayton, Brittany, Madison, Derek, Deven, Ralph III, Jimmy, Kordell, Casey, Eliana, Daniel, David and Brooklyn; great-grandson, Frankie Joe to arrive in February 2026; brothers, Pete and Gary Betterton; sisters, Peggy Oakerland and Bunny May; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry Guy Casey, 79, died October 6, 2025, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born September 3, 1946, in Hutchinson, to Donald Leroy and Georgia Bell (Miller) Casey.

Larry graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965. Directly following graduation, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, serving for three years. Larry worked at Morton Salt as the shipping supervisor for over 40 years, before retiring in 2013. He enjoyed spending time on his property, hunting and fishing.&nbsp;

On December 24, 2008, he married Debra Ann Brandewiede, in Hutchinson.

Larry is survived by: wife of over 16 years, Debra Casey of Hutchinson; children, Sam (Natalie) Casey of Jefferson City, MO, Cody (Audrie) Casey of Salina, Jenna (Kyle) Poppelreiter, Nick Reuber, both of Hutchinson; and grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Levi, Abbie, James, Chandler and Khloe.

He was preceded in death by: his parents and brother, Michael Casey.

Alice Mae Neufeld, 91, died October 5, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born November 28, 1933, in rural Sylvia, to William Howard and Ruth May (Jones) Brown.

Alice graduated from Sylvia High School. &nbsp;She worked for various financial institutions, retiring as head teller from Bank of America, after 23 years of service. &nbsp;While her children were little, Alice enjoyed bowling, bringing home numerous trophies from various tournaments. &nbsp;In addition, she was an avid Kansas City Royals and Kansas University basketball fan. &nbsp;Despite life’s adversities, Alice kept her faith, and held her head high. &nbsp;She was a loyal and active member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church for over 40 years. &nbsp;

On August 27 1953, she married Eddie L. Neufeld, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;He died December 18, 2018, after they shared 65 years of marriage. &nbsp;Alice and Eddie loved to travel, and spent many miles touring the United States in their motor home and camper.

Alice is survived by: &nbsp;daughter, Jo Matzes of Danville, MO; sons, Larry Neufeld (Kathy) of Augusta, Gary Neufeld (Chris) of Salina, and Jerry Neufeld (Debbie) of Kemp, TX; grandchildren, Craig Matzes, Brett Matzes, Trey Matzes, Drew Matzes, Clayton Neufeld, Brian Neufeld, Ryan Neufeld, and Emily Bakhaya; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Howard Dale Wells, 78-year-old Eucha resident, passed away at his home early Monday morning, October 6, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 28, 1946, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Harlow T. Wells and Lora (Myers) Wells. Howard graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965, then attended Junior College afterwards. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1967-68. Howard worked for Boeing Aircraft, Yoder Meats as a meat cutter, sold utility trailers, worked for Killion Electric where he was a warehouse foreman, and other jobs throughout his life. Howard grew up singing solos and duets in church and on the local radio station. He was a passionate hunter and a very good shot, loved hunting upland birds, turkeys and just being outdoors. Howard enjoyed tinkering with old cars, working in his yard and being with his dogs. He was a very good baseball/softball player, played some semi-professional baseball and played church softball until he was 67 years old.

Preceding him in death includes his parents, Harlow and Lora Wells, and a brother, Harlan T. Wells.

The family includes his wife, Saundra J. (Standrich) Wells; his daughters, Leslie J. Gilley and husband Jerry, Wendi M. Goble and husband Jon; stepdaughter Saundra Tilson; stepsons, David Tilson and wife Denise, Mike Tilson and wife Catherine; grandchildren, Brett Schuller, Blake Painter, Kyle Gilley, Josh Gilley; 12 bonus grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.

Joel graduated from KALJ Academy in 2024. He worked in the parts department at Agri Center since February, 2025, having previously worked at Chick-fil-A for 5 years. Joel loved Jesus, family, friends, “old school” country music, horseback riding, concerts and fishing. He grew up with a basketball in his hands and loved playing for the Sabres. Joel especially loved being an uncle to Kason and anticipated Briar’s arrival in the coming months. He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church.

Joel is survived by: his parents, Kevin and Cindy Guffey of Hutchinson; sisters, Kaylee Yutzy (Corbin) of Hutchinson, Avery Guffey (Aaron Soellner) of McPherson, Landri Mills (Maddux) of Hutchinson; grandmothers, Kay Brewer of Hutchinson, Sharon Narramore of May, TX; nephew, Kason Yutzy; niece, Briar Mills; and many extended family members.

Janice P. Geist, 86 was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on October 4, 2025 at Wesley Towers. Jan was born September 22, 1939 in Cunningham, Kansas to Vernon and Mary Ratlief. She attended Halstead schools and graduated from Hutchinson High in 1957, and a month later married Stan Gruver. Their marriage produced two children, Don and Blythe. Jan and Stan divorced in 1975.&nbsp;

On March 27, 1991, she married the love of her life, Gary Geist. Jan and Gary had 34 wonderful years together camping, traveling, and enjoying their dogs and family, until he passed from cancer in 2024.&nbsp;

Jan worked at McDonalds, the three Hutchinson Ben Franklin stores, and retired from Wal-Mart after working for many years in the fabric department, a job that suited her well from sewing many clothes over the years. She was a long-time member of the Hutchinson First United Methodist Church.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margery Elaine Baker; granddaughter, Kristin Gruver; and her husbands.&nbsp;

She is survived by; son, Don (Cindy) Gruver of Newton; daughter, Blythe (Tim) Wilkinson of Hutchinson; stepdaughter, Deb (Charles) Castinado of Alabama; stepson, Rusty Geist of Colorado; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Carol L. Anderson, 76, died peacefully on October 1, 2025, with her loving husband holding her hand, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. She was born December 19, 1948, in Kansas City, MO, to Bernard C. “Barney” and Betty Lu (Valot) Bryan.

Carol graduated in 1966 from Shawnee Mission High School, and attended Kansas State University. &nbsp;She retired as a legal secretary for Ken Peirce. &nbsp;Carol loved animals, especially horses, dogs, and cats and was a member of the Kansas Appaloosa Horse Club. &nbsp;She enjoyed traveling to visit family and trips to Branson, MO, with Marty. Carol was gifted with her own unique personal style when it came to clothes, accessories, and decorating her home. &nbsp;She loved her “bling”! &nbsp;Above all, Carol was a beautiful tender-hearted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who cherished all her family and friends. &nbsp;

On August 4, 2002, she married the love of her life, Marty Anderson, in Las Vegas, NV.

Carol is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of over 23 years, Marty Anderson of Hutchinson; children, Jeffrey A. Smith (Carla) of Wichita, Katie Kelley of Columbiana, AL, Jeffrey W. Bob D. Roberts, 92, passed away September 29, 2025, at his home. &nbsp;He was born to Charles Arthur and Flossie May (Douglass) Roberts on June 29, 1933, in Ford, Kansas.

Bob graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. On March 29, 1958 he married Phyllis Sneed. &nbsp;They were married nearly 55 years before her passing February 14, 2013. &nbsp;

Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked in construction, farming, and was a real estate broker/developer.

He is survived by his: children, Russ (Brenda) Roberts and Deana (Rich) Riney of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Dustin (Ann) Roberts, Alisha (Jason) Elliott, Travis (Alexis) Rhodenbaugh, Kayla (Billy) Kinast, and Kody (Cierra) Groen; great-grandchildren, Tyler (Clare), Taylee, Michael, Jordyn, Kai, Natalie, Aria, Anjelica, Autumn, Jake, Selah, Toni, Axle, and Mack; brother-in-law, Phillip (Dianna) Sneed and many nieces and nephews.

Roberts, 92, passed away September 29, 2025, at his home. &nbsp;He was born to Charles Arthur and Flossie May (Douglass) Roberts on June 29, 1933, in Ford, Kansas.Bob graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. On March 29, 1958 he married Phyllis Sneed. &nbsp;They were married nearly 55 years before her passing February 14, 2013. &nbsp;Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Ann Bowman, age 82, passed away peacefully in Inman, KS, after a courageous journey with Parkinson’s disease, surrounded by her loved ones.

Ann's early years were spent on a family farm in rural Gove County. &nbsp;Alongside her three siblings, she attended a one-room schoolhouse and helped with daily farm life. &nbsp;These humble beginnings laid the foundation for the generous, resilient, and compassionate woman she would become.

She attended Quinter High School where she met future husband, Larry Bowman. &nbsp;The two began dating when she was a student at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS.

Ann and Larry married in 1965 and headed to Colorado where Ann worked with children as a social worker.

Two years later they moved to Alaska, embarking on a 23 year grand adventure! &nbsp;

Ann and Larry raised four children in Sitka. &nbsp;Ann was active in the United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and pianist, led girl scouts and could often be found making taco boats in the Little League concession stand. &nbsp;She continued her work with children as a preschool teacher. &nbsp;Being so far from family, Ann and Larry developed deep relationships with friends who became like family.

Despite the miles, Ann maintained a strong and loving bond with her Kansas siblings.

Returning to Kansas in 1990, Ann and Larry settled in Hutchinson, where Ann pursued her dream of higher education. &nbsp;She earned a second bachelor’s degree from Bethel College, followed by a Master’s in Social Work from Washburn University – accomplishments that reflected her deep compassion and commitment to others. &nbsp;She dedicated her career to advocating for the vulnerable, especially elders and children, through her work with SRS, hospice and the CASA program.

She served as an active member of Community Church of the Brethren in Hutchinson.

Family was Ann’s greatest joy. &nbsp;She cherished her grandchildren – spending time together and encouraging them in their activities and expression. &nbsp;She loved music, chocolate, sunflowers and the beauty found in life’s little things. &nbsp;In retirement, she and Larry traveled together. &nbsp;They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage – a testament to their enduring love.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents. &nbsp;She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry, and their four children, Heidi Bowman, Bret Bowman (Jerri), Jill Bowman (Micah Alton), Kirk Bowman (Brooke). &nbsp;Her legacy continues through her treasured grandchildren -- Daniel and Neve Pospisil, Annalea Bowman-Lopez (Ulises), Takoda, Angelica and Liam Bowman, and Adysen Norton – each of whom brought her great joy. &nbsp;Ann is lovingly remembered by her dear siblings John Hefner, David Hefner (Virginia), and Barbara Hefner.

A memorial service celebrating Ann’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Community Church of the Brethren, 1600 N. Severance St., Hutchinson. Cremation has taken place. &nbsp;A private family inurnment will follow at a later date in Quinter cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2025, at the church. &nbsp;Friends may also sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Leslie Gayle Evans Torrence was born Oct. 23, 1947 and died Sept. 28, 2025.

According to the children, Mom went to join Dad today….she wasn’t ready to leave her children and grandchildren but she was so ready to meet back up with her husband of 60 years. They had a life. &nbsp; Son of the town welder, daughter of the town jeweler. He was not good enough for her and she was not good enough for him (according to their mothers). They shouldn’t have worked out, but they did. They were best friends, lovers, enemies, partners in tormenting their children with jokes and hijinks.

Mom had a wandering Gypsy spirit, and Dad followed her wherever she wanted to go (how we ended up moving 27 times that we remember). Dad never met a stranger (as his children can attest to when going to the store with him), and she was an extroverted introvert who preferred a good book and family time. She was the woman who deserved “The” in front of her name, known as The Gayle by her children and grandchildren. Where she was the storm, he was the gentle rain……at least until she got him going, and then they crackled like lightning at each other. Murriel had the best laugh, and Gayle had the best smile. Together, they created a bond that persevered through life and now continues with her joining him.

Dad was a music teacher at the beginning, a welding instructor in the middle, and became a Registered Nurse in his early 40s. He was always teaching, whether a high school gang banger or a non-compliant diabetic. His favorite job was as a welding instructor at Indio High School in Indio, California. Mom was a Registered Nurse since 1972 (her stories were priceless) and she wore many hats during her career, she was a consummate professional, and an exceptional nurse. It was truly her calling. Her favorite job was at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California, where she was a night shift supervisor and then Head Nurse of a cardiac/telemetry unit.

Mostly, they were Mike and Julie’s parents, loving brother and sister to Evelyn Belt, Dolores Lakin, Michael Torrence and Joy Smith.&nbsp; They are preceded in death by their loving parents and multiple family members and friends whom they grieved. They have left behind many that loved them including their children, son, Michael Evans (wife Michelle Dall); daughter, Julie Hibbs (husband Corby Hibbs); grandsons: Jonathan White; Deric Hibbs; Kyle Dall; granddaughters: Porter Evans; &nbsp;Briawna Bain; Abigayle Hibbs; and Chloe Hibbs.If you were lucky enough to be loved by these two, please know you were loved fiercely.&nbsp; We pray they are dancing in the waves, no longer in pain and watching over us all.

There are no services planned at this time, and a private interment will take place at a later date.

Carol married Tom Westfall on May 5, 1965, in Wichita. Together they owned and ran Graphic Impressions in Hutchinson, KS. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by the people she loved the most and attending her grandchildren’s different activities and events.
