HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County community is invited to attend United.Read.Connect! on Sunday May 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Gowans Stadium.
"We've actually blown it up into a fuller community resource fair this year," said Carla Stanfield with the United Way of Reno County. "We renamed it to United.Read.Connect! We have a really fantastic sponsor, Cargill, who has allowed us to purchase 1000, more than 1000 brand new Scholastic brand books. I like to say, this is an opportunity for our community to have a free book fair."
The Hutchinson Public Library is also helping, so the kids get books that are age appropriate for them.
"The books are going to skew elementary age," Stanfield said. "The rest of the activities are going to be very family friendly, all ages. I think there's going to be a little bit of something for everyone."
The event is rain or shine, so if the weather doesn't allow for it to be outside, it will be inside at the Salthawk Activity Center. In addition to the book, families will receive a free box of food from the Reno County Food Bank, have the opportunity for Touch-a-Truck with police, fire and sheriff’s offices, take home a new outfit for FREE from the Magic Clothes Bus, have a chance to get your face painted, Have fun in a bouncy house obstacle course, and more. Healthy snacks and water will also be available.
"It's completely free," Stanfield said. "It's open to the community. Come and spend some time with us."
