HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas State Fair Board of Directors met in regular session as the fair is now a little over 60 days away.

Interim GM Ed Berger says the board approved some work on the historic House of Capper which has been in need of repair for some time. The board approved removing the roof of the open air structure and asked that the foundation begin a fund raising project to have the roof replaced and other repairs made.

The building has been a main fixture of the fair for many years dating back to 1913. It's one of the oldest buildings on the fairgrounds and has been used as a shaded place to rest or used as a bandstand. At one time the entire building was glassed in and used for the professional arts at one time. No word on when the work will be done on the structure.

The House of Capper is located just east of the administration building near the fountain.
