Vera Elizabeth Durr, 97, died May 6, 2022, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born January 26, 1925, in Decatur County, to Shirley Dean and Bessie M. (Coulter) Cathcart.
Vera graduated from Oberlin High School, and attended Fort Hays State University. For over 24 years, she was an elementary school teacher. In addition, she was a member of the Delta Sigma Epsilon Sorority, PEO Chapter EK, and Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.
On August 1, 1948, she married Merril Floyd Durr, in Oberlin. He died November 24, 2011, after they shared 63 years of marriage.
Vera is survived by: sons, Philip Durr of McPherson and Steven Durr (Teri) of Leawood; sister, Marian Joy Votapka; grandchildren, Ezekiel Durr (Tiffany), Kelsey Heavin (Scott), and Steven Scott Durr (Gena); great-grandchildren, Karley and Chevy Durr and Dillon and Walker Heavin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Virgil Cathcart and Lester Cathcart; and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Durr.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Elliott Chapel, with The Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Inurnment will follow in the McPherson Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
