Merlin Gale Shumway, 92, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Wheatland Health Care Center. He was born on June 14, 1932 in Preston to Glenn and Hazel (Leroux) Shumway. Merlin married Mary (DeRome) Shumway on February 19, 1955 at the Christian Church in Pratt, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2015.
Merlin graduated from Preston High School in 1950. He worked for the Department of Transportation as an Engineer Technician for 40 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Pratt. He enjoyed fishing, camping, shooting guns, playing his guitar and singing with his friends. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Darrell) McNelly of Kingman; sister, Karen Troyer of Ellinwood; grandchildren, Chad (Melissa) McNelly of Kingman, Cody McNelly of Wichita, Abby Henning of Houston, Texas and Tyler (Leslie McElheny) Shumway of Hutchinson; and great-grandchildren, Ashlyn McNelly, Parker McNelly and Rhett Henning.
Merlin is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Shumway; son, Mark Shumway; brothers, Dale Shumway, Lloyd Shumway and Ronald Shumway; and sisters, Lovara Rein, Glenda Ellison and Ella Glenn.
Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 27, 2024 at Larrison Mortuary with Michael Stephens presiding. Burial will follow at Iuka Cemetery, Iuka.
