Donald “Don” W. Cooper, 91, died July 28, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born May 21, 1933, in Rolla, MO, to William “Don” D. and Hazel M. (Hake) Cooper.
Don graduated from high school in Mankato, MN and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College. He served in the United States Navy as an Air Controlman between 1952 and 1956. Don worked for the United Telephone Company as a telephone repairman for 24 years. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing.
On December 16, 1966, he married Betty L. Ely, in Hutchinson. They shared over 57 years of marriage.
Don is survived by: wife, Betty Cooper of Hutchinson; children, Randy (Nora) Cooper of Belle Vista, AR, Kari Schmelig of Hutchinson, Michelle (Glen) VanDeLinder of Overland Park; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry (Doris) Cooper of Weaubleau, MO, Robert Cooper of Osage City and Charles (Nancy) Cooper of Mankato, MN; beloved puppies, Ellie and Bailey.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Gregory S. Cooper; son in-law, Bob Schmelig; and sister in-law, Linda Cooper.
Cremation has taken place. No services are planned.
