Farmers can now choose and enroll in one of two federal safety net programs for their acreage. The current enrollment period runs through Dec. 11.

USDA Farm Production Undersecretary Richard Fordyce said Agriculture Risk Coverage, or ARC, is based on crop revenue, using both yield and price. Farmers may qualify for a payment when revenue falls below the program’s calculated benchmark.

Price Loss Coverage, or PLC, focuses on crop prices.

Fordyce said this year’s enrollment differs from previous years because of changes to base acres enacted last year. He said the addition of more than 30 million base acres requires a prorated reduction of nearly 3.7% to account for those acres.

For the 2027 crop year, the election and enrollment period is scheduled to run from Nov. 2 through March 15, 2027.

Producers can get more information from their local Farm Service Agency office or at farmers.gov.
