HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A motorcycle-themed fundraiser aimed at supporting cancer patients will return to Reno County on May 9.
The fifth annual “Cruise for the Cure” poker run, organized by Bretz Injury Law, will benefit the Cancer Council of Reno County. The event is designed to bring together the local motorcycle community while raising funds for a cause that organizers say impacts nearly everyone.
“We were looking for a way to get the motorcycle community involved with a charity that everybody can support,” Casey Ensz said. “Cancer touches absolutely everybody.”
The event is open to all road-legal vehicles, not just motorcycles. Participants will travel to multiple stops throughout Reno County, drawing cards at each location to build a poker hand. A final stop will include a skill-based game to give participants a chance to improve their hand.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Salty Cycles, 129 E. Sherman Ave., with the ride starting at 10:30 a.m. Riders will travel to stops in Buhler, Inman and Hesston before finishing in South Hutchinson and returning to Bretz Injury Law’s office for lunch, prizes and raffles.
Organizers say the event typically draws strong participation from the motorcycle community.
“We normally have over 100 hands sold and almost 100 bikers, if not more,” Ensz said.
In addition to fundraising, the event also promotes motorcycle safety awareness during a time of year when more riders are on the road.
“The weather is starting to turn nice, and all the motorcyclists are getting out there,” Ensz said. “We want to make sure that everybody is safe.”
