Charles Dean Cushenbery, 76, of Newton, KS, formerly of Medicine Lodge, KS, died Saturday, September 7, 2024 at his residence.

He was born on September 9, 1947 in Chickasha, OK, the son of Lindle Dean Cushenbery and Helen Evelyn (Moomau) Cushenbery. On August 16, 1976, he married Brenda Joyce Jowers. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2023.

Charles was a retired truck driver. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving with the Seabees, in two tours of Vietnam. He ran heavy equipment in the military and on his second tour, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.

Surviving are one step-daughter, Ronda King of Newton, KS; one step-son, Troy (Melodie) Irvin of Tuscola, TX; his son and daughter, Cameron and Sheridan; two brothers, Steve Cushenbery of Cherryville, KS and Darrel (Jolene) Cushenbery of Goddard, KS; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers, Jerry and Dennis Cushenbery.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104 with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS.
