County Commissioners approve solar moratorium

Posted Apr 11, 2023 6:07 PM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Board of County Commissioners officially passed a moratorium on commercial solar projects at its meeting on Tuesday.

There will be no commercial solar development in the county through the rest of 2023, to give the county's Planning Commission time to develop solar project regulations.

There was a consensus among commissioners to do this at a meeting last month and the vote on the resolution without any amendments was 5-0.

The planning commission now has the rest of the year to write regulations for county commissioners to look at, hopefully sometime in 2024.
