Description
The Licensed Nurse (LPN or RN) is a professional nurse responsible for assisting with planning and directing nursing care for a designated group of residents. This position provides direct supervision of charge nurses and assists with the teaching and supervision of team members to ensure high-quality care consistent with the mission of The Wesley.
Summary of Personnel Responsibilities
- Provide positive leadership and supervision of nursing personnel.
- Assist with the orientation and training of newly hired staff.
- Supervise medication administration by CMAs to residents in assigned areas.
- Evaluate the completion of tasks assigned to CNAs and CMAs.
- Participate in personnel evaluations and corrective actions in conjunction with the charge nurse and Director of Nursing.
Summary of Coordination of Resident Care
- Assist in the ongoing development, updating, and implementation of resident plans of care.
- Interpret established care plans and communicate any changes to team members.
- Observe, assess, and report changes in resident behavior or physical condition to physicians and designated contact persons.
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders.
- Ensure proper procedures for control of medications and supplies are followed.
- Receive, document, execute, and follow up on physician orders in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Serve as a positive role model to staff, residents, and families, communicating effectively to maintain a warm, respectful, and resident-centered environment.
- Assist with planning and implementing therapeutic individual and small group activities that meet residents’ needs and interests.
- Execute and direct nursing care in compliance with regulations, guidelines, standards, and The Wesley policies.
- Perform duties of CNA, CMA, or other nursing staff as needed to meet residents’ individualized plans of care.
- Carry out additional duties as needed to help residents attain or maintain the highest possible level of functioning, within the nurse’s scope of practice as an LPN or RN.
Summary of General Duties
- Supervise CNAs and CMAs in providing quality, personalized care for residents in assigned areas.
- Complete admission nursing assessments and discharge summaries.
- Coordinate with team members, departments, unit coordinators, and physicians to ensure successful resident transfers.
- Provide shift-to-shift updates and reports to incoming team members.
- Ensure physicians are notified of changes in resident condition and that care plans are implemented appropriately.
- Attend care planning sessions for assigned residents when possible.
- Respond to emergency calls throughout the Wesley Towers complex as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current licensure as an LPN or RN in the State of Kansas.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
