SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Public Works says the work on the 43rd Avenue bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad continues to move along.

The project is still on schedule and, if all goes well, could even be finished by the end of this year. The official completion date for the 223-foot structure is late winter of 2022.

The desire by Union Pacific to keep the right-of-way available for a second track, soil erosion prevention and the bridge's close proximity to old K-61 highway drove up the cost of the small span to more than $3.7 million.
