HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Farmers, ranchers and agricultural professionals are invited to attend a free gathering in Hutchinson next month aimed at addressing stress, mental health and well-being in the agricultural community.

The Soil & Soul gathering is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Hutchinson. The event will begin with coffee, doughnuts and networking at 8:30 a.m., followed by presentations and discussions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The gathering is the second in a two-part series designed to strengthen relationships, share resources and develop support systems for agricultural producers and those who work alongside them.

Organizers say the event will bring together farmers, ranchers, spouses, agricultural professionals and community supporters to discuss the challenges facing rural families and ways to build a more supportive agricultural community.

Mark Mayfield, a former national FFA president, author and motivational speaker, will deliver the keynote presentation, "Find Your Day," at 1 p.m.

Raised on a hog and cattle operation, Mayfield draws on his agricultural background and personal experiences to discuss mental health, resilience and navigating life's challenges. He is the author of "I'm Not Okay, You're Not Okay, and That's Okay."

The program will also feature three speakers addressing mental health and well-being within agriculture.

Sarah Gideon, the Kansas Farm Bureau's 2025 Rural Minds Matter Advocate of the Year, will present "Looking Out for Our Neighbors," focusing on recognizing and supporting those facing challenges in rural communities.

Thomas Eisenbarth, the Kansas Farm Bureau's 2025 Rural Minds Matter Young Advocate of the Year, will present "Maintenance for the Long Haul."

Camron Nisly, an agronomist and couples and family therapist, will lead a session titled "Crop Talk."

The morning presentations will begin following the 9 a.m. welcome and introductions. Lunch will be served at noon before Mayfield's keynote address. The event is scheduled to conclude at 3 p.m.

The gathering is presented by Buhler Mennonite Church, Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, Hutchinson Community Foundation, Prairie Vista Veterinary Hospital and other community partners, with additional support from several local organizations and foundations.

There is no cost to attend, although advance registration is encouraged.
