Lifeguards still needed for local pools

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As the Salt City Splash and Buhler city pool prepare to open for the season, Hutch Rec is still looking for lifeguards and other personnel for the summer season.

According to Amy Conkling with Hutch Rec, both pools have enough lifeguards to start the season, but will need others to help fill the rest of the needed staff. The good news is that it appears there may be help on the way as the Red Cross lifesaving certification class at the YMCA for this weekend is full. Another class is still available May 31 through June 2. The cost is $200 but Hutch Rec will reimburse the entire amount if a lifeguard stays on for the entire summer.

Conkling says, for the most part, all other summer jobs are filled with the exception of concession stand workers for the pools, Hobart-Detter Field and Fun Valley. Some umpires are also needed for some work.

If you would like to be a lifeguard, you must be at least 15 years of age and certified through the Red Cross. All other job applications can be filled out at hutchrec.com/employment.

The pools open for the season May 28.
