
Maria Eulalia “Lola” Bignell, 91, of Hutchinson, died January 17, 2024, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born October 10, 1932 in Laramie, Wyoming to Juan and Francisca (Frausto) Esparza.
Lola sold medical supplies in Boise, ID prior to retirement. She and her husband, John, moved to Hutchinson 12 years ago, to be closer to family. Lola’s life was devoted to her husband of 54 years, John, her strong Catholic faith, and her beloved dog, Mickey. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.
On August 9, 1962, she married John Patrick Bignell, in Laramie, WY. He died November 25, 2016.
Lola is survived by Goddaughter Lisa Jacques and husband Troy, numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, John; and siblings and their spouses, Valentin Esparza (Mary), Sylvia Padilla (George), and Louis Esparza (Pat); and a niece, Veronica “Roni” Sanchez.
Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, at Elliott Chapel. Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson, with Father Matt Glazier officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow, KS. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family to receive friends following the Rosary from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
