Stephen J. “Steve” Kendall, 71, died June 15, 2024. He was born April 17, 1953, at the Pratt County Hospital, to Joseph O. and June L. (Glenn) Kendall.

Steve grew up on a farm south of Haviland. He graduated from Haviland High School in 1971. Steve married Sheri Cutright on June 16, 1973. They had two sons. Steve worked for Consolidated Freightway for almost 30 years until they closed in 2002. He then worked for the DMV in Wichita as a CDL examiner. In 2010, Steve started a new program, training new drivers to get their CDL license. He competed in many State Truck Driving Championships, winning 1st place, five times allowing him to compete in the National Championships. 

Steve was the KMCA Safety Professional of the Year in 2015. He was a Boy Scout Leader for troop 306, and was a member of the Central Kansas Gun Club.

Steve is survived by: his wife of over 50 years, Sheri; sons, Jeremy (Melissa) Kendall of Edmond, OK, Andrew (Kimberly) Kendall of Park City; grandchildren, Maci and Hudson Kendall of Edmond, OK; mother in-law, Vera Cutright of Hutchinson; siblings, Joe Kendall of Texas, Richard Kendall and Dan Kendall, both of Pratt, and Susie (Don) Glazer of Texas. 

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Mary Jenkinson; and brother in-law, Jerry Jenkinson.

Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service has been planned. Burial will take place at a later date in Haviland Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
