HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education will take a look at a proposed 2023-2024 calendar at its meeting Monday night.
"Lynette Krieger-Zook, the president of Hutchinson NEA, is the co-leader of this team with me," said Deputy Superintendent for USD 308, Krystal Young. "We have a group of teachers that work together to put our calendar together."
There was a change proposed as a result of the length of winter break this year. They want to make it shorter.
"We went to our staff and parents and asked for some input on winter break," Young said. "We had heard some things about winter break being too long. We were lucky enough that, honestly, if we had an opportunity to cut winter break by a few days, we're actually going to get out of school on May 17, which we have not seen for years."
If approved, the calendar has K-9 starting on Aug. 16, 2023 with 10-12 on Aug. 17. The calendar will be considered by the board at their meeting that starts at Monday at 6 p.m. in the Administration Center, 1520 N. Plum.
