Thomas Alfred Barber, 86, died March 15, 2024, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born March 8, 1938, in Middletown, NY, to Salvatore Thomas and Margaret (Powell) Barber.

Thomas attended Middletown High School, Middletown, NY. He earned his associates degree in administration from Columbia College. Thomas served his country with the United States Navy on the USS Spiegel Grove Ship, retiring after 20 years of service . For several years he worked as the director of engineering for Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, a basketball referee, and a bus driver.  Thomas was a Mason and a Shriner, a member of the VFW, and American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68.  

In his spare time, Thomas enjoyed fishing, wood carving, and playing his mountain dulcimer. He also loved to dance.

On September 5, 1963, he married Arleen Gail Holliday, in Middletown, NY. They shared over 62 years of marriage.

Thomas is survived by: his loving wife, Arleen Barber of Hutchinson, KS; daughters, Belinda Saiz of Hutchinson, KS, Tina (Justin) Yocam of Harrison, AR; grandchildren, Antonio Saiz of San Diego, CA, Rudy Saiz of Austin, TX, Dominick (Marcella) Saiz of Hutchinson, KS, Martina Saiz (Kacie Kienzle) of Hutchinson, KS, Alex (Emily) Yocam of Oak Harbor, WA, Dakota Yocam of Harrison, Ar; 8 great- grandchildren; and siblings, Joey, Nicky, Rosemary, and Katherine.  

He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Randy Barber; brothers, Bobby, Tony, Anthony; Sister, Janie; and great- grandson, Santino Saiz.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard.

Friends may sign his memorial book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, at Elliott Mortuary.
