HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas is reminding drivers to adjust their sleeping habits along with their clocks this weekend.
"Daylight Saving Time begins, clocks will be springing forward and we also spring forward into a lot of drowsy drivers on the road," Steward said. "A time change just creates an interruption in sleep patterns for most people. The possibility of drowsy drivers is strong this time of year. We just recommend people get some extra sleep Sunday and into early next week."
Also, find those sunglasses you may have put away for the winter.
"You're suddenly faced with a darker commute in the morning," Steward said. "You may have sun in your eyes on your evening commute where you hadn't before. It does take some adjusting to. It just throws people's body clocks off."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that one in three (35%) Americans is sleep deprived, sleeping less than the recommended minimum of seven hours daily and one in 20 has fallen asleep at the wheel in the past month.
