HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The seventh neighborhood to join the Hutchinson Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative has been decided and the meeting to name it is Tuesday.

The seventh neighborhood boundaries include:

  1. Walnut Street starting at Avenue C heading north through 2nd Avenue
  2. Walnut Street and 2nd Avenue heading west to Plum Street, then following south of the railroad tracks to the Ken Kennedy Freeway, at Sherman Street
  3. Sherman Street and Ken Kennedy Freeway heading south to Avenue C
  4. Avenue C/Ken Kennedy Freeway heading west to Avenue C and Walnut

Residents, home owners, and business owners living in these boundaries are invited to the next neighborhood meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Zone, 805 E. Avenue B. At the meeting, residents will discuss neighborhood names. Residents are encouraged to submit name ideas prior to the meeting and can do so by e-mailing Adam Stewart, neighborhood development coordinator at Hutch Rec, at [email protected]

The Hutchinson Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative (HHNI) is a collaborative approach to improve the marketability of area neighborhoods, making them an attractive place residents and newcomers choose to live for an enhanced quality of life.

The city has a couple of incentive programs that are specifically available to those looking to live in featured neighborhoods. Those are a down payment incentive, up to $2500 toward the down payment to purchase a home in one of the featured neighborhoods for a first-time home buyer.

The other one is they have a program with Peoples Bank and Trust, where people can receive an interest free home repair loan. Essentially, the city pays the interest on the loan.
