KANSAS CITY — A suspect faces charges in connection with a domestic disturbance that led to an officer-involved shooting.

Saul Maldonado, 46, Independence, is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and 3rd Degree Domestic Assault, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

On August 10, police responded to a residence in the city of Independence, Missouri, regarding a domestic disturbance, according to court records. Upon arrival, police contacted the victim who said the defendant was drunk and pulled her hair, hit her in the face, and kicked her while on the ground.

Officers observed Maldonado standing in the hallway of the residence with a firearm. Body camera footage revealed Maldonado raised the firearm and pointed it in the direction of the police officers and police opened fire.

Officers repeatedly told Maldonado to drop the gun prior to the shooting. Maldonado  was transported to an area hospital with gunshot wounds to his right arm.

Maldonado remains jailed on a $100,000 cash only bond.
