
Leona Kay Bergen, 86, passed away at her home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, December 22, 2025. She was born on October 23, 1939, in Burdett, KS, the daughter of Everett and Opal (Epley) Ruby.
Leona graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1956, and attended Sterling College, graduating with her bachelor’s degree in 1982. On June 2, 1956, Leona married Raymond Charles Bergen in Hutchinson. They had four children, Lorna, Cynthia, Marc, and Barbara. Leona was a foundation member of Life in Christ Transformation Church here in Hutchinson, KS.
Leona is preceded by her parents; husband, Raymond; three brothers, Joe, Greg, and Steve Ruby; sister, Patricia Sands; daughters, Lorna Bergen and Cynthia Akins; and a grandson, David Eshelbrenner.
She is survived by her son, Marc (Terri) Bergen of South Hutchinson; daughter, Barbara Bergen-Whitmore of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Jessica Bergen and Angela (Chris) Howard; great grandchildren, Jhenna and Ashlynne Thomas, Lillian Nelson, and Kylie (Josh) Allred; and a great-great granddaughter, Phoebe Allred.
Per Leona’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 27 at Life in Christ Transformation Church, 1049 Lincoln St, Hutchinson, KS 67501. Memorial contributions are suggested to Life in Christ Transformation Church and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
