Margaret S. Kennedy, 86, formerly of Hutchinson, died September 20, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Lawson, MO. She was born April 4, 1938, in Memphis, TN, to Charles Ford and Grace Maxine (Henry) Spencer.
Margaret graduated from Messick High School, Memphis, TN, in 1956. She attended Memphis State University, before graduating from Baylor University in 1962 with her Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano.
On August 24, 1962, she married the Reverend C. Mitcheal Kennedy, a Presbyterian minister, in Memphis, TN. He died August 3, 1985.
Margaret was a professional piano accompanist. Her piano career started as a teenager in Memphis, TN, and continued throughout college. After graduating from college, Margaret was the staff accompanist at a graduate school of music in Fort Worth, TX. She later accompanied for the school district in Vinita, OK. Margaret and her husband moved to Hutchinson in 1983. She began accompanying private voice students, but her greatest enjoyment was accompanying anthems written for the piano and for the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir. Margaret was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. She served on several committees at the church, was an elder, and a member of their Chancel Choir. Margaret retired from First National Bank, Hutchinson, in January, 2009.
Margaret is survived by: sons, Charles Kennedy of Overland Park and Joel Kennedy of Wichita; daughter, Meredith Tucker (Bo) of Lawson, MO and four grandchildren, Mitch Kennedy, Brooks Kennedy, Anna Tucker, Lila Tucker, William Tucker and Paige Renfrow; and four great-grandchildren, Bo Tucker, Carlee Tucker, Ziel Brown, and Kashous Kennedy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Helen Spencer.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Elliott Chapel, with Denny Vick presiding. Private family inurnment will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
