Power restored after tornado damages western Kan. community

WALLACE COUNTY —Thursday afternoon and evening storms rolled in the unusual direction from southeast to northwest in Kansas bringing heavy rain, hail, damaging winds and a tornado.

The National Weather Service issued tornado watches and warnings for Wallace, Logan, Sherman and Thomas counties.

A tornado caused considerable damage to the small town of Weskan in Wallace County. The sheriff's office reported damage at  Weskan USD 242, trees and power lines down and damage to vehicles. Power was also  back on in the community, according to Midwest Energy and Sheriff Unruh. There were no injuries reported.

On Friday, the National Weather Service will send a team to survey damage to determine the size and strength of the tornado.
