NEWTON, Kan. — A global network outage that has disrupted business around the world has also affected City of Newton systems.
The Utility Billing Office, Newton Municipal Court and Engineering Office are unable to take payments or access accounts. The software vendor hopes the outage will be resolved before the end of the day but is not able to estimate how long it might take.
The outage was caused when a popular cybersecurity company released a faulty update overnight. The company says it was not a security incident or cyberattack. The City does not use this security software, but some of the software vendors that we rely on do.
