PRETTY PRAIRIE, Kan. — Pretty Prairie USD 311 passed their bond issue in May. It is a total bond of $7.7 million. Superintendent Ashley Anderson explained the next steps for the district.
"We've got an established financial timeline, of course," Anderson said. "We'll sell our bonds July 19 and then we'll close on that on August 9. Everything will be taken care of financially. We'll start projects as soon as we can."
Some of that work that is outside can be started in the fall.
"With the gym expansion and remodeling, we're going to start all of the outside work for the foundation of the new construction, we'll start all of that in October," Anderson said. "That will run through April, so we'll make it through our basketball season with the gyms that we currently have."
The internal projects will likely start even sooner, once they get the money bonded out.
"Our first projects are our science classroom and our ag shop, getting those things taken care of," Anderson said. "We'll start chipping away at some of the smaller things, the roofs, we'll get started on those quickly. The windows are being designed right now by Landmark Architects. We're meeting with them to start the talks about designing our secure entrances."
There may be lots of moving around of classrooms as work continues throughout the coming school year.
