
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County government announced on Dec. 27, newly-elected County Commissioner Mark Reese is resigning from his seat.
“Due to unforeseen demands of my current job I will be required to spend more time out of state," Reese said. "Due to these demands I cannot fulfill my duties as the Reno County commissioner in District 4.”
According to the Reno County government, Reese had written a letter of resignation dated Dec. 26, announcing his resignation from his duties as a commissioner.
To fill his seat, the Reno County Republican party will hold a party district convention.
The convention must be held within 21 days of the chair receiving notice of the vacancy.
The name of the person selected at the convention to fill the vacancy is certified to the Governor, who appoints the person within seven days. [KSA 25-3902, 25-3904]
During the Reno County Republican party convention, the precinct committee members, located in District #4, vote on the replacement.
District #4 consists of precincts: 5, 6, 7, 12, 13-H102, 13-H104, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 35.
Mark Reese, Republican, won the election to become Reno County Commissioner in the new 4th District on Nov. 8, defeating Michael Jobe, Democrat.
The Reno County Commission is expanding from three to five members after voters approved the change in November 2021.
The new commissioners were elected in November 2022.
They will begin their duties Jan. 9, during the Reno County Board of County Commission meeting at the Reno County Annex conference room, 125 W. First Ave.
The commission meeting begins at 9 a.m. and the new commissioners will be sworn in at 10 a.m.
Newly elected county commissioners are Randy Parks in District #1, who is succeeding current Commissioner Ron Sellers whose term will be expiring, and Don Bogner in District #5.
Commission Chairman Daniel Friesen in District #3 and Commissioner Ron Hirst in District #2 will continue their current terms.
