HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Sales tax revenue for Reno County in February was the second highest in at least seven years.

According to figures released by the Treasurer's Department, sales tax collections for February totaled $499,195. Only February of 2018 was higher at $517,804. Sales tax numbers for February reflect the December Christmas shopping season.

The number is nearly $85,000 higher than February of 2020 and more than $129,000 higher than last month. A combination of higher prices and continued strong local shopping trends in the area fueled the numbers.

In the first two months of the year, the county has taken in $868,787.
