Five Days of the Harvey County Free Fair in August

HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. — The Harvey County Free Fair is Aug. 3 through Aug. 7, and is expected to be filled with five days' worth of fun.  

Opening day of the fair, Aug. 3, will include the parade and the carnival.  

There will also be 4-H Food Judging, 4-H & Open Rocketry and Robotics Judging, 4-H & Open Woodworking Judging, and 4-H Small Engines and Electricity Judging. Events are slated to run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.  

The second of the fair, Aug. 4, will include the Newton Saddle Club Rodeo at 8 p.m. Admission for adults is $10 and children 6-12 is $5.  

Throughout the day there will also be 4-H Arts & Crafts and Fiber Arts Judging; 4-H Projects Displays, Posters & Notebook Judging, Open Family and Consumer Sciences Division Judging. 

Then 4-H and Open Judging begins for the following: crops, garden, floriculture, and forestry.  

Day two will see 4-H Booths and Banner Judging, 4-H Photography Judging, 4-H/FFA Poultry Show, 4-H Entomology Judging, 4-H/FFA Swine Judging, and 4-H Rabbit Show.  

There will be a food auction and silent auction as well. 

The third day of the fair, Aug. 5, will include the Newton Saddle Club Rodeo at 8 p.m. Admission for adults is $10 and children 6-12 is $5. 

Then throughout the day, enjoy the Market in the Park, Ag Fest, pedal pulls, turtle races, a cornhole tournament, Charity Tug-o-War, a mud volleyball tournament, a dog costume contest, and a bucket calf costume contest. 

There will be 4-H/FFA and Open Sheep Judging, Showmanship and Sheepless Sheep Showmanship. 

The big event for the fair’s fourth day, Aug. 6, will be the Demolition Derby at 6:30 p.m. Admission for adults is $10 and children 3-11 is $5. 

Prior to that, the day will include Farm Bureau/MKC Breakfast for 4-H/FFA youth and families.  

For shows there will be the 4-H/FFA and Open Dairy Goat Show, 4-H/FFA and Open Dairy Show, 4-H Bucket Calf Show, 4-H/FFA and Open Beef Show, and Youth Horticulture Judging. 

Then the final day of the Harvey County Free Fair, Aug. 7, will include a Livestock Judging Contest, Barnyard Olympics, the Round Robin Showmanship Contest, Watermelon Feed, and 4-H Livestock, and Champion 4-H Food Auction.
