Sheriff IDs Kan. woman who died after driver fled rear-end crash

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal hit and run crash have identified the victim as 26-year-old Anastasia Rooney of Derby.

Just before 2:30p.m. Monday, a Chevy Silverado driven by 58-year-old man from Haysville rear-ended a Volkswagen Bug at 2000 E 63rd Street South in Sedgwick County, according to Sheriff's Lt. Benjamin Blick.

The Silverado fled the scene of the collision at a high rate of speed westbound on 63rd Street South. At 600 E 63rd Street South the driver of the Silverado lost control of his vehicle, crossed into the eastbound lanes of 63rd Street and struck a Buick Encore driven by Rooney head-on.

Rooney was pronounce dead at the scene, according to Blick.

EMS transported the driver of the Chevy Silverado to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured.
