
Lydia B. Toews, 94, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Moundridge Manor. She was born on September 29, 1929 in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, Canada, to Cornelius M. and Annie (Bartel) Penner.
Lydia grew up in the Ste. Anne and Greenland areas, where she attended school until the 6th grade.
She was a member of the Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in Hesston.
Lydia was united in marriage to Percy Toews on September 16, 1956 in Ste. Ann, Manitoba, Canada. They lived in Langdon, North Dakota for one year, later moving to Almena, Wisconsin for 45 years. After Percy’s death in 1995, Lydia moved to Swanson, Saskatchewan, Canada for three years, and then moved to Kansas to be closer to her daughter.
She was a devoted homemaker.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Wayne) Regehr of Moundridge; son, Linley (Sandy) Toews of Bloomfield, IA; sisters, MaryAnn Reimer of Linden, Alberta, Canada, and Naomi (Clifford) Warkentin of Rio Verde, Brazil; brother, Joseph (Adeline) Penner of Whitemouth, Manitoba, Canada; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven brothers; two sisters; and great-granddaughter, Eden Rose Isaac.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Meridian Mennonite Church, Hesston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Monday, January 22, at the Moundridge Funeral Home, with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church.
