🏀 MBB: Dragons dominate Dodge wire-to-wire

DODGE CITY, Kan. — Hutchinson's Kam Thomas hit a career-high five triples as the Dragons led the Conquistadors wire-to-wire Saturday afternoon.

Thomas was a perfect 5-of-5 (including 3-of-3 from three) in the first half. He finished with 23 points and three blocks on 8-of-11 shooting.

His counterpart, Tino Simon, shot 7-for-11 and scored 18 points.

Hutchinson (5-1, 1-0) put up the first five points of the game and led by 13 with 6:24 left in the first half.

Dodge City (2-5, 0-1) cut that lead to eight before a buzzer-beater layup by Zoe Holman put Hutchinson up 10 at the half.

Dodge City pulled within five with 11:14 remaining before the Dragons closed the door for good.

Hutchinson matched its largest lead of the game at 13 with 3:13 to go before the fifth Thomas triple pushed the advantage to 14 with 1:53 left.

Four Dragons scored in double figures: Kam Thomas (23), Tino Simon (18), J.P. Ricks (16) and Zoe Holman (12).

Chevalier Emery led Dodge City with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting.

The Dragons shot 54.1% to the Conqs 41.3%.

The Dragons held Gavin Shannon (16.8 ppg) to eight points on 4-of-9 shooting. He pulled down nine rebounds.

Hutchinson is home Nov. 21 to face Labette.
