Roger Alvin Schulz, 88, of Canton, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024, surrounded by his family at Pleasant View Home, Inman.
He was born on November 21, 1935, on the family farm north of Canton, KS, the son of Glen C. and Flossie M. (Rogers) Schulz. Roger was the great-great-great-grandson of August Schulz who homesteaded in Battle Hill township, McPherson County, Kansas in the late 1800s. He attended elementary school at the Battle Hill School House and graduated from Canton High School. On September 17, 1954, Roger was united in marriage to Geraldine “Geri” Kliewer in Canton, KS. This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Mitchell. Geri preceded Roger in death on January 2, 2022, after 67 years of marriage.
Roger was the owner of Gas Products, Mac County Gas, Schulz Oil & Gas, Schulz Welding, and Canton Grocery, LLC.
Roger served in the United States Army and was a member of the Canton American Legion Post #192. He was also a member of Canton Community Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Rodney Schulz (Julie) and Mitchell Schulz (Karen), all of Canton, KS; siblings, Criss Schulz (Joan) of Topeka, KS and Carolyn Moddelmog (Keith) of California; five grandchildren, Jamie Schulz of Limassol, Cyprus, Dylan Schulz (Josie) of Canton, KS, Tyler Schulz (Taylor) of Park City, KS, Emily Brannon (Sam) of Canton, KS, and Sam Brannon of Canton, KS; five great-grandchildren, Iris, August, Leonidas, Blakely, and Elijah; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Harold Schulz, Dean Schulz, Richard Schulz, and Virginia Tolle.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Canton Community Church. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 15, at Canton Community Church with Pastor Mike Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Canton Township Cemetery.
