HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commissioners gave their approval Tuesday to increase the reimbursement rate that Reno County Correctional Facility gets from the Kansas Department of Corrections for housing parole violators.

Currently, the Kansas Department of Corrections reimburses Reno County $53 per day to hold parole violators. The rate has not changed since 2009. The sheriff’s department asked that the reimbursement be increased to $62 per day, per parole violator. The S.O. says the rate change is due to budget increases in staff salaries along with other increases in the necessities of operating a jail.

With the correctional facility averaging about 45-50 billable hours per month, the increase will amount to an extra $445 per month to help cover expenses.

The increase is still well below the allowable limit set by the KDOC, which is $94.29.
