CHENEY, Kan. — The body of the missing person at Cheney Lake has been recovered.
Ty Freel, 48 of Wichita, was found around 7:50 this morning by a civilian who was fishing approximately 1,000 yards off the shore, according to Reno County Sheriff's Capt. Steve Lutz.
The person contacted the Cheney State Park office and said they believed they had found the missing person. Several Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks boats responded to the area and performed the recovery. Lutz says that Freel was with friends around 3:45 Saturday afternoon when he was preparing to water ski. It appears that he jumped into the water before putting on a life vest and did not resurface.
Next of kin has been notified. The body has been taken to the Sedgwick County Forensics Science Center for an autopsy.
