HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Salvation Army of Hutchinson raised more than $19,000 during its annual fundraising dinner and auction, with money raised going toward programs serving people throughout Reno County.

The Salvation Army announced that its “A Summer Night of Hope” fundraiser, held Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Salvation Army Community Center, raised a total of $19,410.

The annual dinner is the Hutchinson Salvation Army’s largest fundraising event of the year and helps the organization provide assistance to individuals and families across Reno County.

The event featured dinner, live music and both silent and live auctions. Local businesses, organizations and community members contributed auction items and other donations to support the fundraiser.

“This past Saturday, we held our annual fundraiser and auction. Our community showed up, and they showed out!” the Salvation Army said in announcing the results.

The organization thanked those who donated items, participated in the auctions, attended the fundraiser, helped spread the word or provided encouragement leading up to the event.

“We are blessed by all of the support that poured out this year,” the Salvation Army said.

Major DJ James, who leads the Hutchinson Salvation Army, previously described the annual fundraiser as an important part of the organization’s ability to provide services throughout the year.

“This is our biggest fundraising event of the year,” James said. “It’s a great night of connection and community that allows us to keep helping people year-round.”

James also credited local businesses for their continued support of the fundraiser and its auction.

“I’m always amazed by the generosity of local businesses,” James said. “The auction is a highlight every year and there’s something for everyone.”

The Salvation Army said the $19,410 raised this year will help it continue its mission of assisting people in need throughout Hutchinson and Reno County.

The Hutchinson Salvation Army Community Center is located at 700 N. Walnut.
