Robert Wesley “Bob” Smith, 77, of Hutchinson, died July 21, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born August 19, 1946, in Hutchinson, to Oliver A. and Ocie Z. (Latham) Smith.
Bob graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army and Kansas Army National Guard from 1965-1972. Bob worked in the shipping department at Doskocil/Tyson Foods for over 38 years until he retired. He was a family man first and loved spending time with his grandchildren, and grand-dogs. Bob also loved to fish and travel, taking many mini-vacations with his family over the years. He also loved auto racing and helped work on cars and traveled with the team to various tracks in the area for over 30 years. Bob was a God-fearing man and member of New Life Church of the Nazarene.
On January 20, 1967, he married Connie Jo Conrad, in Hutchinson. They shared over 57 years of marriage. She survives.
Also surviving are: his son, Jeffrey Smith (Christi); grandson, Jerry Smith (Lexi); great-grandchildren, Zayla, Khortni, Wyatt, all of Hutchinson; siblings, Frank Smith (Brenda) of Tyler, TX, Karl Smith of Hutchinson, Georgia Walden of Winfield, Rick Smith (Arlene) of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Karen Smith of Hutchinson; and many extended family members.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; nephews, Kenny Poulton and Wayne Walden.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Blvd., Hutchinson. Military honors will be conducted by Kansas National Guard Honor Team.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
