David “Big Dave” Brian Serviss, 49, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in Pretty Prairie, KS.

David was born on January 17, 1975, in Lyons, KS, the son of David James “Jim” and Cris (Collins) Serviss. On July 15, 1994, David married the love of his life, Heather Jenkins, in Hutchinson, KS. They spent 30 wonderful years together. He was a dedicated employee of Reno County for 27 years – with the majority of those years with Reno County Public Works Department. David loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. David’s greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. David had a passion for hunting and fishing with his boys, no matter the season. He was a jack of all trades and was always there to help his daughter with anything and everything she needed. Being a Papa kept him young and his wallet empty because he spoiled them with every want and need. He never missed a ball game, school concert or family activity with his children and grandchildren. It wasn’t uncommon for David to scroll endlessly for new recipes to try on his smoker or to throw into his ice cream machine for a last-minute family dinner. If he wasn’t relaxing in his chair, he was spending all his free time in his shop tinkering around or working on his mud truck. David and Heather were best friends and could be found travelling near and far, camping, and trying out all the escape rooms they could find. He was a giant teddy bear with the greatest soul who made an impact on all who had the privilege to know him. David is already missed beyond words by so many.

He was preceded in death by his father Jim and father-in-law Tom Jenkins.

David is survived by his mother, Cris Serviss, Wichita, KS; the love of his life, Heather Serviss, Arlington, KS; two sons, David John (Brandy) Serviss and Logan (Chazney Thiessen) Serviss, both of Arlington, KS; daughter, Megan (Duke Anderson) Serviss, Wichita, KS; sister, Dannelle (Robert Perez) Serviss, Haysville, KS; grandchildren, Gentry and David Miles Serviss, Arlington, KS; mother-in-law, Connie Jenkins; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Ryan) Balkenhol; brother-in-law, Ryan Jenkins, all of Emporia, KS; step-mother, Joan Ballard, Clackamas, OR; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who loved David.

David’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, beginning at 11 a.m. for a come and go lunch at Arlington Community Center, 900 W. Main St, Arlington, KS. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the David B. Serviss Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
