After seeing an increase in egg production earlier in the year, it has dropped off significantly.
Summers hot weather is here, and that is curbing the egg output. Anytime temperatures get above 80 degrees, it can affect chickens with dehydration, and that leads to laying fewer eggs.

The most recent information from the department of agriculture says that May egg output dropped, and so did the number of total egg laying hens.
American egg production fell six percent, and some forecasters say it may not rebound for quite some time. That's because the number of egg layers in the U.S. on June 1 totaled 350 million, a six percent drop from the same date last year.
