Kenneth Bradley (Brad) Powell |1951-2026|

Posted Oct 21, 2026 2:22 AM

Kenneth Bradley (Brad) Powell, 75, passed peacefully from this life on October 18, 2026 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born June 16, 1951 in Hutchinson to Verne and Phyllis Powell.

Brad graduated from Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Community College, and attended Wichita State University. Brad worked for the Hutchinson News for over 45 years, until his retirement. He was an avid collector of coins, and music (vinyl and CD). He, along with his parents, was a longtime Oklahoma Sooner football fan. The Powells had an OU flag hanging on their front porch on Crescent Blvd., in Hutchinson, for decades! Brad was a Christian, and a longtime member of Eastwood Church of Christ in Hutchinson. He had been living at Good Samaritan in Hutchinson since early 2025, no longer able to care for himself while suffering from multiple health issues. Brad really enjoyed living there, and was appreciative to all the workers for their friendship, care and attention.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents Verne and Phyllis, and a sister Susan Powell Evans. He is no longer in pain or restricted in movement, and his soul has been reunited with his beloved family members.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Eastwood Church of Christ or Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
