HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Buhler USD 313 Superintendent Cindy Couchman said the district wants to see more than just one week of good numbers before they bring kids back so that's why they're waiting until March 1st.

"Being transparent about our plan, we want two weeks of declining numbers," Couchman said. "We wanted to make sure we had a target date of exactly when the expectation is we'd be ready to open with all of our systems in a school this size."

Transportation and food service are just some of the areas that need to be ready.

"We have a couple of new bus drivers," Couchman said. "A lot of people don't understand the system behind it. When we bring everybody back, we have to also do new bus routes and new pickup times and practice those bus routes. There's a lot involved, including ordering more food and all kinds of things."

They also want to make sure the kids start with a full week at school when they come back. Parent teacher conferences are Thursday and Friday of next week for Buhler.
