HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Lisa Gleason with the United Way of Reno County said they are almost at their goal for the annual campaign.

"We are about 90% to our goal with not quite a month left to go," Gleason said. "We need about $100,000. We still have some businesses that have not gotten their campaign dollars to us yet. We know there is still some to come in. We're going to be close to that goal. We don't want to let the community down. We need everybody's help."

The money has already been promised to the more than two dozen organizations the United Way serves. They do that through an allocations committee that meets in the spring.

"We can never raise enough," Gleason said. "The need is greater than what we can raise. This allocations committee does hear each of the agencies. They come forward, they share their story, they show us how they are changing and improving lives and how they are fiscally responsible with their dollars. We want every donor to know that we have, kind of done the due diligence to know that the funded partners that we are raising dollars for are absolutely making a difference in this community."

Ninety-nine percent of the money raised stays in Hutchinson, and the United Way counts on volunteers to help with the fundraising campaign.

"We rely on volunteers," Gleason said. "[Campaign chairs] Ed and Carol Berger are the most amazing volunteers. We have a volunteer team who is helping us support raising those funds, our campaign cabinet. We could not do our work without volunteers who help us expand our capacity. We believe very strongly, how important it is to advocate for our community, volunteer for our community and support our community through their resources."
